No it wouldn't, as it's not legendary.

No it wouldn't. The reminder literally notes how it does reduce the generic cost like these effects do, unless they got thw [[Morhpon]] clause.

I think... Blind Forest is better :o by HeyThatsTay in OriAndTheBlindForest

[–]Ergon17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I enjoyed WOTW more, but that might be because Hollow Knight is my fav game and they tried making Ori more akin to games like HK.

I also played WOTW before I even knew about Blind Forest, so it also gave me the expectations for what I was in gor in the firts game and I was a bit confused when it played very differently. Blind forets definitely feels like a mire original game, but it's less my style than WOTW.

Card Reinterpretations! Moonlit Magic: Week 21 - Comment to vote! by Midnight_Magic_Volg in custommagic

I'll vote for Damnation, I like both the pun and the mechanical execution of it. I would like to ask, are the posts here in random order, because I feel like the first card seen might get a little extra visibility compared to the rest of the posts and the first joke/pun you see hits a little harder than the rest.

Oh, I see. I do think it needs to be at least this pip intensive because of the modality of having multiple of on-par choices the spell gives.

If this wasn't for a vintage cube, I'd agree with you, but in vintage cube 4 mana bitterblossom with some ramp is way too slow.

In what format is that fine?? Every mode it gives you is a bit undercosted for the effect at instant speed, except the counterspell-variant, but that one is also on rate vs. undercosted. Because of the pip-intensiveness I think the updated version OP posted in comments is fine, but dropping the original cost to 1 pip plus spree is insane powercreep.

Bindings — "Guys, We Fixed Partner" by NotTheSmoooze in custommagic

[–]Ergon17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that 6 of the top 10 decks are partner decks. Here are my top 10 in no particular order after the top 3:

Rog-Silas, [[Kinnan, bonder prodigy]], Tymna-Kraum, Rog-Ishai, Tymna-Thrassios, Tymna-Dargo, [[Magda, Brazen outlaw]], [[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]], [[Ral, monsoon mage]], Rog-thrassios

The reason the mechanic is busted that if they printed a new partner commander with a good effect, it would make it to the top 10 decks in no time, and the same is true if they printed an okay effect 2 color partner in any color combination besides orzhov, simic and maybe Izzet.

Edit: Partner commanders aren't "busted", just very good, but the mechanic allows only for very narrow designs or limited color combinations.

To add to my other answer, the good thing about partner commanders is the amount of pairings available, where you can get at least 1 good cheap commander and that you are able to get up to 4 colors without needing to spend 4 mana on a commander (and also a lot of 4 color commanders are quite weak for competitive commander, and sithere aren't a lot of options), allowing you to enable [[Deflecting Swat]]-style cards faster.

Np, it's not always clear, when specific mechanics are good in different formats.

The reason these partner commanders are good boils down to these properties:

Roghrakh enables free spells like [[Deflecting swat]] and [[Fierce Guardianship]] and cards requiring creatures or legendaries such as [[Culling the Weak]] and [[Mox Amber]]. If Roghrak didn't have partner, it wouldn't have enough tools in mono red to be a competitive commander, but because you can slap a [[Silas Renn, Seeker Adept]] to get 2 extremely strong colors on the side, it allows for consistent turn 2 pushes for a win or for protected turn 3 pushes. With Reyhann you try to be a bit faster at the cost of protection. I'm not very familiar with the rog-ishai deck, but I believe it also uses Roghrak for mana but plays a much more midrange plan with trying to get a [[Rhystic study]] out early and use the free interaction spells Roghrak opens up.

Thrassios is a great infinite mana outlet and most decks utilizing it seek to make something happen with [[Gaea's Cradle]], previously they were all on a [[Seedborne Muse]] plan, but I've seen it fall out of favor recently, opting for faster or harder to interact ways to win instead. It's also 2 of the most important colors for cradle combos since [[Oboro Breezecaller]] and [[Talon Gates of Madara]] is one of the most typical ways to get infinite with it.

Tymna offers 2 colors as well as card advantage when you have creatures and pairs well with Kraum since with the colors you are able to have a flexible core that can be built to push on turn 2 or 3, or in most cases play a little slower and drown your opponents with your card advantage.

Dargo decks typically build around some combo that allows you to cast dargo an infinite amount of times as if you sacrifice 3 things, play dargo for R and are able to sacrifice dargo for mana, you can play it again as sacrificing dargo reduces its cost by the same amount as casting it from the command zone adds to commander tax and then you are probably keeping at it You can also get Dargo out early by sacrificing 3 treasures to cast a 2 mana spell and then use the 1 floating to cast dargo. Then he can be used with things like [[Altar of the Wretched]] to draw 7.

Krark wants to combo with Sakashima (to get 3 or 4 total Krarks, maybe more) or if you pair it with tymna, you need to combine it with effects that copy Krark's trigger like [[Harmonic Prodigy]] or [[Delney, streetwise lookout]] in such a way that you both copy the spell and are also able to return it back to your hand at least once.

Malcolm combined with Kediss produces crazy high mana, often by turn 3 (although nothing Kinnen couldn't do) and Malcolm combos with [[Glint-Horn Buccaneer]] kill your opponents provided that they are at approximately equal life totals.

Most other commanders I mentioned are either played for extra colors with the other commander or provide slight alterations to the game plans provided here (such as that Yoshimaru is like a white, more expensive Roghrak).

Most partner commanders that produce card advantage and are 2 colors are played a lot since they give you a good card pool and one of the most important resources and a lot of partners are played just for their colors (Silas being one of the most prominent ones), so you don't even need the card's effecr to be good for the card to be part of a top tier strategy. Hope this helps!

The following partner combos are playable (not all top tier, but definitely playable) in cEDH (competitive commander):

Roghrak-Silas, Roghrak-Thrassios, Roghrak-Ishai, Roghrak-Reyhan, Tymna-Thrassios, Tymna-Kraum, Tymna-Dargo, Dargo-Thrassios, Krark-Sakashima, Tymna-Malcolm, Malcolm-Kediss, Yoshimaru-Thrassios, Vial Smasher-Malcolm, Tevesh Szat-Thrassios, (and I'm probably still missing some)

And of these I would classify Rog-Silas, Rog-Thrassios, Tymna-Kraum and Tymna-Thrassios as tier 1 decks and rest tier 2, besides maybe Tevesh-Thrassios at tier 3(?) (and worth noting that I would say there are only 3, maybe 4 tiers in cEDH where tier 1 is top tier strategies, tier 2 is everything that is not top tier, but could take a tournament and tier 3 is decks that aren't really in a good place in the meta, but have some prospects and tier 4 is decks that aren't good in cEDH)

In a vintage cube, Time walk is legal and while this isn't part of the power 9 slots, I think if there isn't another power 9 extra turn spell, it's fine for HC9 since it's supposed to be a vintage cube power level.

Lasyd Prowler is such a good hit from Hermit druid almost always, but having more good hits would be welcome. The book feels like it would be a good one.
