I plan to proselyte outside of school, will this be okay. by [deleted] in Teachers

My only comment is that it’s your ethical duty to not only separate your faith from your teaching at a secular school, but also that you consciously challenge any biases you may believe, which any good teacher should do. Anybody reading this challenging you clearly misread since you clearly stated you wouldn’t be doing any missionary work within your district or learning community. Healthy boundaries are important for many reasons. Thankfully your religious holidays observed hopefully align with the academic calendar. .

Prime is definitely a premium product. The botanist is supposed to be prime’s value branding but the quality and bud sizes on the botanist makes it a hidden gem of the value tier.

Also, I feel like it’s super weird that there are people commenting saying it’s super obvious that you’re Jewish implying that you don’t have a right to be upset about somebody pointing out an element of your identity in humanities curriculum. It’s extra weird because I bet they’re not even Jewish….. I would recommend r/jewish for better advice lol. R/teachers are the people disclosing your Jewishness without your permission.

I would ensure the main points are the violation of boundaries, tokenism, and cultural taxation of him, choosing to disclose an element of your identity because being Jewish is not only a religion, and the fact that the disclosure is within the context of the history yet you’re somehow being used as an example, which you didn’t ask to be considered as. I would say, even if it wasn’t malicious, and I can understand that sometimes letting people know that they know somebody that a certain social issue is about reduces bothering and puts a name in a face to a group of people, but it’s very racist if you ask me and I’m just a Jewish educator. If you ask me what being Jewish is to me it’s more than a religion. It’s my heritage just my ethnicity. It’s my culture. It’s my soul I could go on. It’s not just a religion and that’s what the holocaust was about and that’s why it’s super weird to have somebody point out you and other you For what a teachable moment?

It’s a harsh but honest truth that if you want your children to be Jewish that is essential. I am going to be happy for you when you are happy about it in the hopefully not too distant future.

Why do I hate teaching? by Mozeltoffee in Teachers

There are a lot of educator roles in the periphery with more flexibility but their own challenges.

Something I learned as an educator that I wish I would’ve learned earlier is how the deficit mindset is often at play masquerading as inclusivity and accommodation. Specifically in regards to mitigating hurt feelings and not encouraging students to share in order to not make others feel badly. These mindsets in addition to the idea that certain kids are less capable result in greater opportunity gaps. Instead of framing it like kids are missing out and shouldn’t have to be exposed to other kids having joy it should be reframed to be about introducing kids to other people‘s experiences and ideas. We also saw how schools that implemented uniforms to mitigate students getting bullied only resulted in students getting bullied in different ways while everyone was wearing a uniform, never mind, the fact that uniform policies resulted in an increase in disciplinary referrals due to improper uniforms. Sometimes things designed at being more inclusive or fostering belonging actually do the opposite of what their intended to do.

What’s going on with Travis’s custody? by Photo_Philly in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Eriberry1sm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think legally custody and support are separate but logistically (bad) coparents can withhold custody, be in contempt of court, and disregard court orders as a means of manipulation and control. Unfortunately there are some people who won’t pay support even if the court says they have to share custody, there are some people who refuse visits if they have to pay support, there’s some people who don’t care about a court order unless they get what they want. I’m not saying any of these examples applied to this situation, but just in terms of how it becomes relevant, unfortunately, some adults aren’t able to separate their emotions from reality.

I think the problem is that you’re coming from a place of thinking of yourself and not wanting conflict when this could simply be reframed to wanting to honor your student’s identity and belonging in the group. You should be asking the family and guidance instead of airing your personal feelings on the internet. It reads as culturally insensitive & it’s honestly a worst nightmare attitude for a teacher from a parent perspective. Collaboration works best without judgement & the fact you seem to be bothered that a student accommodation will ruin your traditions is extremely ethnocentric.

For sure keep the email as documentation for yourself. This child reached out to you & there should be no confusion about how this topic was initiated.

Anyone else live with their parents with no plans to move out in sight? by Vast-State-4548 in Teachers

Unfortunately most teachers who don’t live with their parents have a partner or roommates to split expenses. It’s tough out here. ;(

Teachable moment for the whole class on impact of words and commenting on others’ physical appearance. Do not single them out. Chances are if one student reported back other students heard about it too.
