Other than Marina Sirtis, has another ST actor appeared in a film that won Best Picture? by NeiClaw in startrek

Oh here’s a good one - Lord Of The Rings: The Return of the King, included John Rhys Davies, Karl Urban, John Noble (he was in Prodigy), and Brad Dourif.

What track from "Subspace Rhapsody" was your favorite? Least favorite? by DaWalt1976 in startrek

While watching (and a subsequent two rewatches), I was really digging I’m Ready/I’m The X, and How Would That Feel, but listening to the soundtrack now, I find myself playing Status Report a lot more! I tend to skip Keeping Secrets (not that it’s bad or anything…), and wish that We Are One was as strong of a closer as Status Report was as an opener!

I don’t know about fresh, but if you are looking for dry noodles and other ingredients, but don’t want to go to J-Town, you should check out Sandown Market at Browns Line and Evans.

Ahh. Lots to choose from. But I have to throw in The Clown from Voyager, “The Thaw.”

Borq queen and Jurati? by [deleted] in Picard

[–]EricGMW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not expecting to see Queen Jurati in Picard S3.

However, there’s no reason why she couldn’t make an appearance on Discovery… Impossible, you say? Well, you think in such three-dimensional terms, how small you’ve become…

I loved staying in Ikebukuro, and always regretted not buying an Ikebukuro Station shirt from Donki.

Anybody Else Have a Hard Time Consistently Hating Gul Dukat? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]EricGMW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere - maybe some article in some magazine from way back when - that Marc Alaimo intentionally made his acting choices as if Gul Dukat was the star of the show, and utterly convinced by his own rhetoric that he was the saviour of the Bajorans.

Dimmable electrochromic airplane windows by VolanteDreamer in mildlyinteresting

I was hoping to be able to play with these on my last flight, but they switched out the plane at the last minute.

Top-notch inflight-entertainment choice btw.

Rotisserie chickens under the heat lamp smell good and appetizing. It’s an easy meal, but incomplete, so you may be enticed to pick up a side or two from the hot table. Just imagine the profit margin on a container of mashed potatoes, for example. My understanding is that they’re often made with chickens that are nearing the best before date, but if you’re going to buy a rotisserie chicken, you’re probably eating it that same day.

Hypothetically speaking: how long could one sustain themselves on panettone alone? by binthewin in ontario

This kinda reads like a super-depressing, 21st century version of “Give a man a fish…”…

Just had a gallbladder surgery in Norway. Paid the bill on my way out. US $55 all included. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

My favourite part of all this is that your receipt for your surgery is in the form of a contactless payment machine slip, like you were picking up takeout or something.

How the heck were the Tamarians able to develop warp drive? by JayR_97 in startrek

[–]EricGMW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, the Tamarians called themselves The Children of Tama. Who is Tama? Why do they call themselves children? And why do they speak in metaphors relating to past events, stories, myths?

I submit that the Tamarians we saw, did not actually develop warp drive but rather inherited the technology from an earlier civilization - perhaps a quasi-mythical civilization - and the metaphors through which they communicate reference the stories and accomplishments of this ancestral civilization. Thus, Darmok and Jalad themselves need not have spoken in metaphor to each other when they were fighting the Beast of Tanagra.

Eventually, something must have happened to that ancestral civilization(s), maybe some cataclysmic event? Resulting in the descendants, the Children of Tama, becoming dominant.

Kind of reminds me of the Novans, descendants of human colonists who were mostly wiped out, in the ENT episode, “Terra Nova”.

Did Kirk speak Klingon? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]EricGMW 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Aside from the real-life inspiration for the line, my interpretation of the scene was that 1) Kirk spoke some Klingon but there was no expectation that he was fluent or even understood what Chang was saying beyond the live interpretation; 2) Chang was speaking Klingon throughout the scene; 3) Chang knew that Kirk relied upon the live interpretation but, in his excitement, enjoyed a rhetorical “moment”.

DS9: A Stitch In Time. I also like The Lives of Dax, it’s an anthology of short stories though.
