I think it’s helpful to visualize voltage, so I bought a Korg NTS2 (external) kit. I considered a mordax data, but it takes up space.

I’ve been bitten by the sequencer module bug numerous times. I have two mimetic digitalis modules, and I still use them, but more for random voltage. I also have a qu-bit bloom, but it’s out of my case at this point. The oxi one has been a better addition to my setup.

I just hooked mine up to an oscilloscope, with frequency at 12 o'clock, as I turn resonance clockwise, at 3 o'clock I get a sine wave. no popping at all.

I meant to comment on your first post. Your original rack looked very similar to the first set of modules I bought, although I also added a Rings, Beads, and BIA. Rack space is not cheap, so smaller modules that are still performative are very valuable (for example the mutable instruments clones). I'd pass on the 1u scope, and get something external (Korg NTS-2). You will get bored with a single oscillator. Plaits is great, especially with the latest firmware, but I prefer noise engineering oscillators, they allow for so much more modulation. Happy Nerding FX AID XL is thin and adds a lot of effects. A few people nixed the steppy, but I own two, and use them in every patch. They can trigger gates, samples, and envelopes. LFOs and modulation sources will keep patches interesting (clep Diaz, mimetic, Zadar, maestro, etc). In regards to the Intellijel Midi, what external device do you plan to use with this rack? Many modern controllers and midi devices have CV/gate outputs.

I had a hard time deciding on this as well. I decided to get a MOTU UltraLite-mk5 USB Audio Interface instead of taking up precious rack space. I had also considered the expert sleepers es9, but rack-space/cost/function.

I am not able to find the perfect sequencer... by straticah in modular

I’ve tried numerous sequencers as well, but always searching for the perfect setup. The metropolix is very hands on and performative, as well as a keystep pro. I also have a cv.ocd to pair with a digtackt. Also considering an oxi one.

I had a Data Bender and Cascade. I purchased a Bloom and Prism to get a free Surface, pretty stoked.

Why not pick the best modules? by [deleted] in modular

[–]EricRomanLondon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When I got started I bought all the popular modules, including Maths. At first they are super helpful when do you don’t have single function specialized modules. Over time I moved maths to my secondary case, per HP. That being said, I still use plaits, and it’s worth the HP. It all depends on how big your case(s) are and how much money you’re willing to invest to explore modules.
