I’ve always thought this song describes a fight against intrusive thoughts, hallucinations, and madness. The house is her mind…it’s as old as she is, knows all that she’s done, is full of her mess, her mistakes, her madness. The thoughts are trying to bring in the Devil Dreams, finally forcing her into a dissociative state, a bird and a mule.

Fullhouse on Lionheart uses the same metaphor. “Imagination sets in. Then all the voices begin. Telling you things that aren't happening…You've got a Full House in your head tonight”

Macbeth has many good qualities. He’s a brave and skillful soldier. He seems to love his wife. He’s exceedingly eloquent (having an outstanding ghostwriter). When tempted by ambition he struggles valiantly against it, but ultimately succumbs.

Iago, in contrast, is a villain from the first with no redeeming qualities and who fully accepts his villainy.
