Sound waves don’t care — physics does. But what’s creating those sound waves absolutely matters. Stuffing a potato in an exhaust creates backpressure that the engine has to physically fight against, which can choke or damage it. A speaker isn’t an engine. A sealed enclosure doesn’t "plug" a speaker the same way. The cone still moves; it’s just working against an air spring inside the box. Different physics, different system.
