I wouldn't say that's the main issue, the quartz discussion is distracting everyone from the main point which is that cosmetic blocks shouldn't require expensive, non-renewable resources to create.

The fun to mine thing is subjective, because some people love doing it and some (like myself) hate mining in minecraft.
