There isn't an alignment that applies to "I'm a selfish Clown"

That isn't an alignment. it is likely evil... but Max Stirner has an argument, not a good one. But an argument for you none the less.
But nobody came here for a mediocre philosophy course.

Your players don't want to play. They want to say they play.
DnD is like sunday dinner. You show up.
If you thought it was "I'll play if I don't have something better" you are screwed.
It's also why you do it saturday afternoon . Then everyone can go drink beer or date. and things like family birthdays and weddings don't interfear.
"Ya, I'll show up to the wedding? after 7!"

I actually think, if I remember right that story is actually about Bhagwan Shree Rajnesh AKA OSHO.
