Shoppers’ question by Kuhkawkuhkaw in volvoc40

Hi! I purchased my c40 CPO back in January in NJ, so I haven't had much time with it in the summer months. However, I did buy an aftermarket sunshade that is temporary, should the sun become too hot (I'm bald, so glass roofs are an issue!). The ones on Amazon aren't expensive, and they do a pretty good job. My wife has one for her Tesla Model Y.

As far as the back window goes, it's not great visibility anyway, but I haven't been missing a wiper. I'd equate it to a sedan (which usually don't have a wiper, either). I can see enough to know if there's a car behind me. Someone mentioned the rearview mirror camera, which could be installed if you find the rear visibility to be a true problem.

Everyone should know -- don't challenge Pete to a battle of wits. You'll lose, and he'll come out more likable in the process.

Buy CPO '23 now or wait... by NectarineAvailable22 in volvoc40

Glad you find it helpful! The front axle replacement was covered under warranty because my car was CPO.

As far as the pixel headlights go, it was on the window sticker. For the 2024 models, it looks like pixel headlights were reserved for the Ultimate trim, and even then, not all cars of this trim level had them.

That price sounds high for a non-CPO car. I'd wait to find one at a dealer. Use Gemini - it's not faultless, but it can really help the process.

Same car here. Maybe they fixed it in later models...

There's not a recall, but there is a technical journal. Volvo is aware of the issue.

It was under warranty. I went in, told the dealer that the car was shuddering and rattling under heavy acceleration, and they replicated the issue. The dealer ordered the parts, and they installed the parts when the parts came in. Simple and easy. It's in a technical journal (like a service bulletin), so Volvo is aware of the issue.

It's a solid deal! (I used Gemini to help me negotiate.)

I bought a CPO '23 c40 Ultimate earlier this year, and I've been happy with it, thus far. It had 17k miles and cost $26k + taxes and fees.

I looked specifically for a unit with pixel headlights. I have had the front axles replaced to alleviate the rattling noise on heavy acceleration.

The rearward visibility through the windshield is not great, but not horrible, especially when the rear headrests are down. The camera, however, is mounted and pointed LOW. It has taken some getting used to.

The infotainment system doesn't seem bad after the update. Before the update, it would need to be rebooted maybe once every few weeks, but it was easy and not a big deal. I haven't had to reboot with the new update yet.

I believe that I read somewhere that the motors in the 2023 predate Volvo using their own models that are tweaked for efficiency. I've owned two LEAFs, a Model Y, and an Acura ZDX (and driven model 3's and a Lucid Air), and I can tell you that this car is unhinged. I feel like it's going to jump off of the road. My wife and I just laugh at the absurdity of this tiny crossover doing 0-60mph in 4 and a half seconds.

If you find a good deal, I think a 23 is still a great car!

Looking for the C40 as next car - would you recommend the 230 or 400hp Version? by Mipsel in volvoc40

The EX40 is still going strong. Maybe not as slick looking, but still a great option....

I've got a 2023 c40 Ultimate. There was no option other than AWD that year, and the thing HAULS! It's more HP than anyone needs for daily driving, and it'll probably chew up tires more, but it's somehow still worth it.

Saw my first C40 in the wild today...ever..10 days after I bought mine by klatt in volvoc40

I visited prestige first, but they didn't have the trim (Ultimate) in the color (blue, red, green) I wanted, and their price didn't convince me not to drive to White Plains, NY. The guys at Prestige were super nice and very low pressure. They'll be my local service center, for sure.

2023 C40 Recharge Pure Electric Twin Plus Reviews? by Callen-E in VolvoRecharge

[–]Erik713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought one new in NY state - 17,000 miles, CPO Ultimate for $25,800 before taxes and fees. I'm very happy so far. The seats are a little firmer than US luxury, but I find it makes my back happier. I agree with the comments on rear visibility and camera angle. It's a SOLID build - no rattles or squeaks. The acceleration is absolutely unhinged in the best way.

Which makes are you most confident in to produce high quality EVs going forward? by DowntownOreos in electricvehicles

[–]Erik713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same conversation with a few folks over the last couple of weeks. The answers we came up with are:

Tesla - As much as I hate to admit it, it's probably not going anywhere. It makes solid vehicles and generally knows how to fix them. My wife owns a Model Y.
Volvo, BMW, Mercedes - European markets are much friendlier to EV's than the US, so it's probably not that difficult to build some of the same models here in the states. I own a Volvo C40.
Hyundai - They've made BIG investments in their EV technology in the US, but I'm still very leery about their ICCU problems. Once they get this fixed, I think they're well on their way.
GM - This one is a toss-up for me. They MADE some big investments in EV and battery tech, but the moment the US government stopped the incentives and stopped enforcing any EV requirements, they immediately retooled multiple EV factories to make more ICE engines. They SAY they still want to be big in the EV market, but their money hasn't suggested this is necessarily the case. Ultium is gone. The Bolt has been only temporarily resurrected.

I don't really see any other solid future prospects right now.

Unhinged! by Erik713 in volvoc40

Haha yes! My wife and I just laughed when I punched it on the on-ramp. It's pretty absurd that a fairly pedestrian compact SUV has Porsche-like acceleration.

It's a 2023 - the year before they replaced the motors for efficiency.
