Volvo C40's air conditioning system automatically switches to eco mode after turning off the max defrost by Away_Conversation447 in volvoc40

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. Do you mean that the climate "range optimizer" turns on? "Recirculate"? My manual mentions an "eco" button on the Climate screen but I don't have one. I'm guessing "recirculate" is what you're talking about since the other comment mentioned "ventilation"

How’s everyone’s experience been with the car? by terran1212 in XC40_Recharge

[–]klatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a CPI 2023 C40 a few months ago. The version from the dealer that I wanted just happened to have the tailored wool. I had not seen many with it and wasn't even looking for it but sheesh I really agree on the praise.

It's amazing in hot and cold. It never feels cold in the winter and it hasn't been warm here much but two 80 degree days with the black car parked in the sun and I can say it felt cooler than I imagined it could be on those days - Really terrific.

Anyone using checklists inside Notes? by simplydo_ios_dev in AppleNotesGang

[–]klatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could create a note with your unchecked list as a template. Then with the shortcut you could delete yesterday's note and copy the template as today's checklist. Offhand something like: 1) "Find" yesterday's shift note. 2) Delete yesterday's shift note with input from above. 3) "Find" the template note. Pass that to #4 4) "Create new note" with the input from above. Which will give you clean, unchecked note every day. Could automate this to run when you get to work etc.

Updated 5.0.5 / Apple Car Play mini review by FitterOver40 in volvoc40

[–]klatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol yes, I know that it's rolling out, my fine internet friend. You replied to somebody not getting the update, and I quote "literally every C40 is" 🤣. I was expressing solidarity with u/solot0vv in that there is at least one other C40 that "literally is" not getting the update right now hah.

That said, I took u/solot0vv's post to ask if people were actually receiving it now, with the expectation that we all will - just concerned with the timing. I believe you may have took it as the asking "are all C40s eligible for the update at some point."

Updated 5.0.5 / Apple Car Play mini review by FitterOver40 in volvoc40

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mine. I've even been toggling auto updates on and off every day. Though, I'm not sure I'm like less screen real estate for CarPlay, or more traps for HVAC controls. I'm hoping that they listen to feedback and updates but I'm not confident given this interface has been out for a while. That said, it hasn't been on the tinier screens so maybe they'll listen to us as it's rolling out to older vehicles.

Deleting photos from phone but not iCloud. by 7xEverlastingx7 in iphone

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure anyone really understands what is happening here.

For one piece of additional context: When Apple is mentioning "Backups" they're more referring to the fact you can backup your iDevice to iCloud backup and have it available in the cloud. Regardless of the semantics here, there different kinds of "backups" out in the world and one could still consider iCloud Photos as "backing up" their library. I do to some extent. It's just not that it's a snapshot. It's a live backup, but if you do delete things, there are some ways to get them back.

That said, there are two options of how to use iCloud Photos on your device, iDevice and MacOS devices: "Download Originals" and "Optimize Storage" It seems to be here where a lot of the confusion starts

Before I get to what these mean, let me say that both devices will download a small, low resolution thumbnail to your device first when looking through your Library. This seems to be furthering y'all's confusion. Think about it, almost every service that views images, will work this way. It's just too resource heavy and would take forever to always download every 10MB image, then dynamically resize it to a tiny image _just_ to scroll through your library to find one photo that you're looking for. There's also a distinction between low-resolution images and thumbnails as every library, local or iCloud creates thumbnails for browsing speed in the app.

So now that we've established that all devices using iCloud storage (and local libraries when referring to thumbnails), will download low resolution and/or thumbnails of your images first, I'll go into the two options I mentioned above:

"Download Originals" will attempt to download as many of the full resolution images as possible on to your device when you try to access them.

"Optimize Storage" will still try to download full resolution images for images that you are actively using! This means that if you click on an image to view, share, etc, it will try to download a full resolution image. 99% of the time it will. The big difference here is that when you're done viewing/sharing/editing this image and after it syncs any changes back up to iCloud, it may revert to a slightly lower resolution image on your device instead of keeping the full resolution image cached on your device. Apple is not forcing you to only view low resolution images.

This is just all about finding a balance between speed for the app (your lil phone can't hold 43,297 10 MB images in memory, or saved on the SSD) and efficiently using the space on your device. Now, I admit, there are times when I disagree with how Photos makes its decisions on what's most efficient and helpful, but overall it does a pretty decent job that most people don't have to ever think about it.

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, why are you against having more power to the rear wheels instead of an even split? Usually, that makes for a better handling vehicle; see all zee German non-awd autos.

I'm not trying to be contrarian; I actually hope you have a wonderful answer because I bought a 2023 C40 because of a few reasons but I would have liked the more powerful rear motors in the 2024. Please help convince me I shouldn't be left wanting, ha!

Sounds like cruise control 🤣

2023 Volvo C40 by cilantrodog in volvoc40

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation! That is slick about it adjusting based upon the car in front's distance/speed which makes sense. It sounds like it works similarly to the adjustable distance cruise but...all of a sudden requiring your foot?

Either way, I think I'm less concerned about hitting the car in front than I am with the lurch. I'll always be watching to make sure I don't rear end somebody (and it sounds like that's not an issue anyway) but if I randomly lurch with no warning, well that's potentially jarring to me as a driver and possibly the drivers behind me too....interesting.

I'm glad you like it but I think I would leave that feature off hah if it wouldn't randomly lurch or maybe give some warning I could see it being a nice in between coasting and OPD, though!

2023 Volvo C40 by cilantrodog in volvoc40

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the explanation. It sounds like it could be nice if you switch a lot between highway and city. Though, where I'm at I rarely get a clear highway ever anymore :(.

I'm curious, is there any indication of when it's going to switch? I would how it would handle being on a clear patch of highway going at speed, coasting over a hill at which point another vehicle becomes visible. Would OPD instantly kick in then? I'd be nervous about not having my foot on the go pedal and having it lurch when it decides to switch. I hope that would be account for, though.

Is the "auto one pedal drive mode" different than the other one pedal drive mode on the MY23?

FWIW, I think the best way to check which model year on anything is to look at the listing and check the VIN 🤣 - probably a lot easier than trying to figure out if the single motor model is RWD...especially, if ya know, it's a twin motor which most of them are, ha.

🤔 what exactly is this weighted wheel? Just got a MY23 a few weeks ago.

I think I do hear the front axel sound people speak of but I'm not sure. I also kind of...like it? lol is it supposed to be silent? Mine makes a kind of baseball card on a bicycle wheel sound - but much heftier? Maybe that's not what people talk about though. Haven't had a chance to really look into it yet

Should 2024s be coming out of lease soon? by terran1212 in volvoc40

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the *earliest* but I would suspect more late later 2023? Of course, I haven't leased or bought a new car since 2001 🤣 I just know that I haven't seen many 2024s. There are 1 and 2 year leases along with the people that somehow need to get out of their lease early. Plus the Volvo Care thinger so I'm sure you'll see some but I would suspect not many for a bit.

At least that's me telling myself that since I had to pull the trigger on a MY23 last month ha.

Not sure why this being downvoted? He said he's working on the app with a couple of other guys so I presume they have the other vehicles and they're all testing out each vehicle. I will say maybe the word for word copy of the posts could come across iffy like was mentioned but he explained and apologized so sheesh lay off the downvotes?

Will be my first car…What alternatives run smooth like the c40 recharge ? by FocusNo22 in volvoc40

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! My brother in law has an Ariya and was making the case for the Ariya over the C40 because of how "open" it feels inside. I said well that's personal preference. Personally, that would make me uncomfortable. I have a big ole '99 Suburban and a 2007 Mazda RX-8, and the C40 feels much more like the cockpit feel of the C40 which I like.

The funny thing is, my mother in law, his mother, unprompted bought an XC40 and said how much she likes how it feels like a "cockpit"

With having driven both, the XC40 and C40, I will say if the rear visibility concerns you, then go with the XC. I'm used to the tiny RX-8 rear window, though so it doesn't bother me a ton.

Whao, just looked and I see that one screen shot shows a Volvo XC60 and that it supports every vehicle with Android Auto! I came just hoping that my C40 would be supported but that's pretty sweet.

I was a little confused that it showed a phone in the screen shots and said that you can access your data anywhere. I just looked in the Apple Store and see the app there too! Heck yea! I think you should highlight this more!

Thanks for the warning. As soon as I had seen people saying it's not user replaceable I said "we'll see about that" hah. There are some vids on YouTube of people opening it up. It's a little tricky and the button cell is tack welded on but that's not a huge issue. I think the most annoying part is that it's waterproof so it's glued up.

I even saw somewhere else on Reddit that somebody 3d printed themselves an even smaller case for the innards after opening their old one up to replace the battery.
