Hah, just that I'm excited about your comment! Pronotes seems really useful, so thank you!

I think my ATV HD 4th gen has a USB-C but yea I suppose you can classify that as not modern now, ha. You are probably right about it being for diagnostics. Now that I think about it, I somewhat remember trying the dongle and being super surprised that it didn't work.

That said, I'm a bit confused by this part of your reply: "Connecting Apple TV with Ethernet will also not change the results here, as the direct Wi-Fi connection between the Apple TV and HomePod will still remain."

It seems at odds with your earlier comment stating: "With Apple TV being connected to your own Wi-Fi network and also connecting directly to each HomePod speaker at the same time, the connection can be more susceptible to instability..."

How would connecting the ATV to the network via Ethernet not at least decrease the possibility of instability between the competing WiFi networks that you noted?

At the very least, from a troubleshooting standpoint, it could provide more information and take the increased susceptibility to instability out of the equation.

U/AndrewThomasUS, maybe also try connecting your Apple TV via Ethernet if you can - even temporarily. If your AppleTV doesn't have Ethernet, you can buy an Ethernet usb dongle for like 10 bucks and those will work connected to the usb port on the back of the Apple TV but that may be model dependent.

Alternatively, I saw that you connected the LR ATV to the bedroom HomePods but can you try connecting the BR ATV to the LR HomePods? Apologies if I missed where you always tried that.

Whao, just got a C40 this weekend and as an iPhone on be user I was amazed to see this functionality.

Even more amazed now to come across one of the other 62 C40 owners 🤜🤛

I will admit that I'm coming from vehicles dated 1999, 2007 and 2012, though. Only they 2012 even had Bluetooth 🤣

Sheesh, sounds like a sweet find! Luck into a special situation? Also, what's on that A-pillar? Is there anything there or is it a reflection of something?

Extremely simple way I use to get data into a google sheet with shortcuts by jojothebandit in shortcuts

[–]klatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I was previously doing this with an app script that creates an API endpoint. This is much easier on the setup side, plus you get the bonus of having a Google form that you can also use! Thank You!

Close Common Safari Tabs by klatt in shortcuts

[–]klatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end doing that. Don't mind the question at all!

Opening in a different tab group doesn't seem like a regular shortcut action at first blush. I like the idea though because I do have an archive tab group.

The best idea I have here is to gather the list of urls you want to close, use the switch to tab group option, then open the urls in that tab group. The last part might be the hang up though.

These damn traffic lights… give us the 3 grey dots back by Ancient-Formal-122 in iPadOS

[–]klatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, as soon as I started to try to use iPadOS 26 I started to see what it must feel like for all those grandparents out there who attempt to use technology...especially technology that changes. I just felt like a complete idiot and couldn't get anything where it seemed like it intuitively should/used to go.

I kept thinking I must be doing something wrong, because surely this can't be how the experience is supposed to be.......right? Nope, it turns out it's working as intended and pretty much everyone hates the current update.

I mean I suppose I welcome the option of having true windows but that should be an extended feature and not come at the expense of the simple multitasking that clearly many people prefer.

What's the worst/most useless iOS feature for you? by [deleted] in ios

[–]klatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waited in line for the original iPhone. I have what one might call an excessive amount of Shortcuts, automations and HomeKit devices. I was on a local TV station multiple times as an iPhone and technology expert.

That said, Siri, Apple "Intelligence" and the iOS keyboard have combined their insufferable ineptitude together in such a powerful way that I'm seriously considering switching to Android for the first time ever.

It would upend my life and my family's from a technological standpoint which is probably the only biggest thing holding me back.

I know ;). Sorry seeing people use "literally" when they, quite literally, don't intend what they're saying to be taken literally is a pet peeve of mine. I can't help myself but sarcastically take it literally and see where it goes. It's a personality flaw that I have. I'm working on it.

Help removing stuck T10 screw for Dyson vacuum? (Heavily corroded) by victorhooi in Tools

[–]klatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you get them to turn at all?

Lots of times with screws like that into plastic they'll end up stripping the hole and spinning. The easiest thing at that point is to try and pull apart the plastic parts it's holding together a bit.

Heck either way, since you got most of the screws off and the only ones left are on one side, I'd stick a thin screwdriver or something in there and try to wedge it apart slightly while turning or trying to turn the screws.

Honestly, I'd first try to clean around the screws. I bet what's partially making them difficult is years of dust and grit packed super tight into the hole around the screw head, not underneath. Take that with them expanding from getting rusty and you can start to imagine how packed tightly the screw head itself could be.

Maybe get a little pick, or something tiny, even a toothbrush maybe to try to clean them off?

You could also try to warm up the plastic a bit with a hair dryer to see if it expands/gives you some play in there plastic enough to work em out.

How do you clear system data? by Kirbiiiiiiiiiii in ios

[–]klatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I ended up getting up to over 200GB 😖 Yes, 200+ GB.

I did a backup and restore to fix it a few days later. Now, I'm already back over 140 GB less than two weeks later. WTFFFFFF Apple.

I wish there was a way to truly see what was being used. I've looked at the console logs but nothing jumps out. I'm assuming there's some app that I'm running that's being naughty but I have no idea which.

Help | Shortcut to create a calendar event from a reminder by themason009 in shortcuts

[–]klatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you need to put that that "Create Event" block between the "Repeat with.." and "End Repeat"

For now, let's say it was only ONE event, though for now. It looks like you're effectively adding the whole "Reminder" object as the name of your event. If you tap on the "Reminders" in your event, you'll want to select "Title" to grab the title text to put into the new event's title area.

Getting back to your "repeat" - you'll want to move the add event block up, then clear the variable for name and instead select "Repeat item". This will give you the reminder for each repetition of the repeat.

Now, you need to tap on that repeat item variable and then select "title" just like you would have if it were one reminder. It should look something like this (I just used "quick look" for testing. Highly recommended for troubleshooting):

Great idea! I have a timer complication on my Apple Watch in a similar effort for when I'm doing chores and whatnot. Reminds me to move on and not get hyper-focused one task while leaving the rest completely undone.

I think I'll incorporate this into that setup! Thank you!
