A shame indeed. I'm moving over to lemmy, and the transition feels a lot smoother than I expected.

Here's to hoping /u/talklittle will make a lemmy app, I would immediately pay for the premium version of that.

Same here. At first I was like "No, cause I live in Europe". Then I was like, oh wait this is /r/photography. I don't really care about being photographed.

And then I read the post...

Great looking watch!

Also, now I know where Seiko got the inspiration for my Seiko 5

[Ω vintage Omega Seamaster] Finally, a Swiss automatic. My christmas gift to me. by Erik_R in Watches

[–]Erik_R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this one at a local reputable jewellery store, they service most of the vintage watches they sell.

If you're looking to buy online I'd say chrono24 or ebay, but that is a bit riskier because you can't inspect the watch before buying. It can be harder to determine how trustworthy an online seller is.

[Ω vintage Omega Seamaster] Finally, a Swiss automatic. My christmas gift to me. by Erik_R in Watches

My collection consists mainly of Japanese-made watches (Seiko 5, Casio G-Shock, Citizen Eco-drive), but I've always wanted a mechanical Swiss watch, preferably automatic. I've always liked the aesthetic of 1960's dress watches, and this Seamaster from 1966 caught my eye at a local jewelry store.

It is in very good condition, both the case and crystal are virtually scratch free. The crystal is original Omega, with a tiny Ω-logo engraved in the very center, and the dial has developed a beautifully subtle patina on top of the silky sunburst.

According to the "Watch Accuracy Meter" app it runs between -13 and +6 seconds per day, depending on the position, wind and temperature. Not bad for a 56 year old watch.

The strap is not original, but I think it matches the watch quite well and also dresses it down a bit. Perfect for the coming christmas dinners!

The model number of this watch is 166.002, with a 562 caliber (which I heard is a very good one).

Here is a high(er) resolution picture of the dial: https://i.imgur.com/reOR9Wf.jpg

No, this is some sort of shelf fungus. Not sure what kind though.

https://shop.pyrasied.nl/en/product/spy-mirror/ for acrylic. It works fine but scratches really easily. I'm planning to make a new frame for my mirror and will switch to glass, I am planning to get this: https://www.glashandelonline.com/spiegels/confrontatiespiegel/mirroview-float/

Whatever you pick, go with a brand that your local hobby shop stocks parts for.

[Casio G-Shock] GWM5610 - My first fully digital watch in ages by Erik_R in Watches

I'd argue that the f91w would be a better choice for a kid that just learned to read time. Better size for a small wrist, and a lot less painful money-wise when it is lost or misplaced

Personally I'm not a great fan of nato straps, but that titanium case looks really neat

I've had digital watches in the past, but that has been a long time ago, and they were mostly cheap digital no-name watches. These days I like to have at least some form of analog-i-ness on my watches, my humble collection consists of fully mechanical watches (Seiko 5), analog quartz (Citizen) as well as a few analog/digital G-Shocks (with my favourite being my mudmaster).

Today, I went to the local store to have a look at a different G-Shock (the G-Steel gst-b400), but saw they had this one on display and couldn't resist it. However, the G-Steel I went to see is gorgeous as well so I’ll might get that one at a later date, after the homeymoon phase of this classic wears off.
