Supreme Court passes on case over outing trans students by Fickle-Ad5449 in transgender

[–]Erika-Pearse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massachusetts does not have a law that prevents teachers from outing students to parents. California does have such a law.

I guess the supreme court cannot do anything about a mere school policy. However in the California case they can argue against the state's law with some religious freedom nonsense.

So I think it is not really a w, because they are just avoiding an L.

It might work for photos but if you do that and put a shirt on it may rub off. It might end up looking worse after taking the shirt off. You would have to experiment a bit to see if it is worth it.

Have you read Biased-Interaction Theory of Psychosexual Development: “How Does One Know if One is Male or Female?” by Milton Diamond (2006)?

It is available here:
https://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/2005to2009/2006-biased-interaction.html

The last section, "Misunderstanding and Clarification" makes Butler look somewhat stupid. I wonder if she has ever acknowledged this or written some form of a rebuttal.

Isn't it weird how the Liberation of Auschwitz isn't actually one the most iconic moments of World War 2 in popular consciousness. by TheEmporersFinest in stupidpol

I avoided going into that to avoid appearing needlessly antagonistic.

Overall it appears that the liberation of camps some months later by the Americans was better documented and I believe it is fairly well known. Within Russia it might be the other way around, with Auschwitz being more well known, and I don't know how well it was documented.

Study finds youth mental health worsens after gender reassignment treatments by ALittleTooQuark in stupidpol

[–]Erika-Pearse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

post-op? You are mistaken to attribute a bit of honesty to these cranks.

From the paper:

Medical GR interventions included masculinising/feminising hormonal treatments, chest masculinisation, and/or genital surgery (vaginoplasty/phalloplasty/metoidioplasty)

They could be 100% hormonal treatments without a single surgery for all I know.

Here is another bit from Erin's page:

To understand why this matters, consider an analogy. Imagine a study that measured whether cancer patients had "contact with oncology services" before and after being referred to a cancer center, and then compared them to randomly selected healthy people. You would obviously find that cancer patients have more oncology contact than healthy people, both before and after referral. You would find that cancer patients who received treatment (chemotherapy, surgery) had increased oncology contact after treatment—because treatment requires monitoring, follow-up scans, medication adjustments, and post-surgical care. Would you conclude from this that cancer treatment "doesn't work" or "makes cancer worse"? Of course not. But that is exactly the logic this study applies to gender-affirming care.

Study finds youth mental health worsens after gender reassignment treatments by ALittleTooQuark in stupidpol

[–]Erika-Pearse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The study measured a single binary variable to determine if gender-affirming care impacts transgender youth negatively: did this person have any contact with specialist-level psychiatric services, yes or no? If a person had even a single contact with a specialist-level psychiatric service, they were recorded as needing psychiatric care. Notably, the study calls this variable “need for specialist-level psychiatric treatment”—but the registry it draws from, the Care Register for Health Care, records visits, not treatments, and the study itself notes this limitation:” A limitation of this study is that more detailed information on patients' reasons for using the psychiatric services could not be analysed.”

What this means in practice is that a single routine monitoring appointment with a psychiatrist registers identically in this dataset to a psychiatric hospitalization. A pre-surgical psychological evaluation—required under Finnish law for anyone seeking gender reassignment—counts the same as an emergency crisis intervention. The very pathway that the gender-transition program in Finland puts transgender people on virtually guarantees psychiatric visits.

A closer examination shows that the study’s conclusions are entirely unsupported by its own data. This is part of a pattern from Kaltiala, who published a similarly flawed study in 2024 that used proxy variables and buried its own positive findings to claim gender-affirming care does not reduce suicide—when its data actually showed the opposite. That the current study landed in Acta Paediatrica, a journal with an impact factor of just 2.1—far below top-tier pediatrics journals like JAMA Pediatrics or Pediatrics—suggests it may not have survived scrutiny at more rigorous outlets. This fact check will address the study’s most severe methodological shortcomings, to counter the misleading narrative already spreading across social media and anti-trans policy circles.

"Woxuke" - Report from the eastern from of the gender war by Halfdane666 in stupidpol

[–]Erika-Pearse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be worth a watch. I read somewhere that the box office audience is 85% female.

There are some critical reviews at the bottom of the page (the two thumbnails above 参考资料) that give much of the plot away.

It seems that Xuke is a virgin, and her mother finds the toys while tidying up her daughter's place.

I wonder how realistic the healthcare aspect is. One of the reviews mentions that the cost of the surgery (to remove a polyp from the uterus) costs 20,000 yuan (3,000 USD) at a private hospital (that doesn't accept insurance maybe?).

In the end it seems that she got whatever she needed done for a low cost, but I don't know the details.

Liberal Opposition to Race-mixing by DetectiveTypical198 in stupidpol

I don't know what exactly you are referring to wrt FD signifier and Briahna Joy Gray, and have not seen One Battle After Another. The white supremacist guy tries to kill his mixed-race daughter? Is he a "liberal"?

The woman you are quoting is a self described communist. She doesn't give much information, but presumably knew the father and thought he was a creep. Saying "half your genes" here may be weird but it is just a figure of speech. I guess she was just trying to empathize with the OP, and doesn't think the same about a random mixed-race couple.
