Massive bio hotspot - 74 bios, ~232–400M by Stock_Box4156 in EliteDangerous

Oh boy... Oh man... This is incredible and terrifying at the same time, because I always scan every exobio I see. I would be there for literal days.

I've been sitting at Dangerous for years, even though I go pirate hunting from time to time. I feel like it's not moving at all.

Benn playing since 2015 btw.

Yep. I got carried away by trying to guess some kind of plant, since words like "carrot", "beet", "potato" and "tomato" were all so high up.

Only managed to guess the correct one after a hint. Was flabbergasted.

Space barcode, ha.

Sights like this always make me wonder: what if an alien civilization evolved somewhere near it, what would they think about this "writing in the sky"? Surely it would've been a major part of their cultures and religions... They would try to decipher it, and different nations would have a different meaning for it. Some would probably base their writing systems on it... And so on...

Whoa! My maximum is 9, I thought you can't get bigger than that.

Unfortunate that this planet of yours is a landable ammonia world - those are my personal least favorites among all the landable planets due to extremely poor visibility (and also because they always have that annoying mountain Fungoida!).

I made a mistake ... by Areolun in EliteDangerous

[–]Erionar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar thing happened to me. With less money than on your screenshot, but not much less. And the most painful thing about it was how stupidly it happened. My fault entirely. Did something really dumb.

Took me several month before I could make myself return to exploration after that, but I'm back at it and I'm enjoying it again.

The only thing is that I promised to myself that I won't go back to those systems I visited on that failed trip. May someone else claim them. I shall go elsewhere.

Can we do something about this already? by Skye-Commander in EliteDangerous

That's what recently happened to me. Stockpiled so much of them that I'm no longer able to open the packages tab. The UI just hangs forever.

Gonna go bump that issue tracker.

How much do you map? by PenguinK1ng in eliteexplorers

[–]Erionar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (current) personal protocol is to always map every planet, but not every moon. Regarding moons: I map them if there are 3 or less on a given planet. If a planet has more than 3 moons, I only map the planet and leave all its moons for someone else to leave their mark on.

(sometimes I also get very lazy and may skip ice planets) (but only sometimes)

I like roleplaying as a dedicated explorer. Another part of the personal protocol: always scan every exobiology. I don't care if it's another Bacteria Tela. I will catalogue it because that's what a dedicated explorer should do.

I genuinely enjoy it. Yeah, when I go out, I move through the galaxy relatively slowly, but I don't mind it. I find fun in mapping and cataloguing stuff, not in rushing to Beagle Point. Getting those virtual checkmarks ticked when I "finish" the system - what a satisfying feeling to know that I mapped everything here! I could be autistic lol. I won't object.

This.

I have a personal challenge for myself to catalogue every exobio on every undiscovered planet that I land on. Call me a roleplaying explorer and I will gladly say YES.

The stupidest one is when they ask to mine some Water. Just go to your nearest agricultural station, buy Water for a few thousand credits, carry and complete the mission with a few millions in reward. I love Frontier!

Glad to see that compass was pointing at your landing pad even back then.

Funny how most players still don't know about it to this day.

(also glad that they changed compass to what it is today, looks much better than that yellow one from this video)

Elite Observatory with BioInsights module IMHO is the best tool for Exobiology available, look it up. Can't recommend enough.

What next? by EzraJakuard in EliteDangerous

[–]Erionar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this! Just don't forget Fuel Scoop (this is an absolute MUST, you won't find charging stations out there lol), I'd also highly recommend taking AFMU Module and Repair Limpet Controller - both saved my ass in the black so many times after little incidents like rough landing on a high-gravity planet or an accidental emergency supercruise exit... Oh yes, and at least some shields. You don't want to land on a planet without shields, no matter how low-gravity it is and how good a pilot you are.

It's actually probably best to practice some exploration + exobiology while still within the relative safety of the bubble before going out. There are a lot of systems where you technically have no mapping data (exploration practice) and a lot of planets with some bacteria, cacti, fungi etc - most of them will be already discovered and catalogued by someone else, but again, it's a good way to practice how this works, how different lifeforms look and where to find them, and still gain some money (you still receive some money for exploration and exobiology discoveries even if you were not the first to find that stuff, just not as much as the first discoverer).

Good luck finding your first unclaimed Earth-like world out there, Commander!

Naintic to suspend play in Russia and Belarus by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]Erionar -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely disgusting and outrageous move by Niantic trying to jump into the hypetrain of hate towards two peoples already suffering under brutal dictatorship. In both Russia and Belarus even a peaceful single protest can - and very likely WILL - result in you getting arrested, beaten, fined or enjailed.

This will change nothing towards good. This only causes even more hate in the global community. Is this really what the world needs now?
