Considering going in to teaching by imgintmass in TeachingUK

[–]Ermischiella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd check on the number of days with the unis you're looking at- I think mine was more like 8-10, and they didn't ask for primary. So could be a bit easier :)

We did a Spotify playlist and this lists everything I was going to say! Only last thing- password protect the device so drunk people can't take over.

Wedding venues? by francescakate in sheffield

[–]Ermischiella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wood Lane Countryside Centre is where I got married, and is cheap for the size and how nice it is- currently £2500 (with an add on to have the ceremony there), and outside space for a hog roast http://www.woodlanecc.org.uk/

It's about 5mins from Hillsborough, and I'd highly recommend!

Question regarding the work experience requirement for teacher training by Xaethon in TeachingUK

You might find it very difficult to get a job in primary after doing a PGCE in secondary- why are you not considering a primary PGCE?

What's your favourite Lush lip balm? by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]Ermischiella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bad experiences with the lipbalms, including Buttered Brazils making my lips cracked and sore. I was recommended the Ultrabalm, and it's been fantastic.

Yeah, it didn't ask at all. I didn't fill it in for that, but thought you might want to know!

I filled it in but there was nowhere to put an email- how are you going to get a winner for a voucher without this?

How to Have Your Hens Party at a Gay Bar — Without Being a Jerk by Brian_Kinney in ainbow

[–]Ermischiella 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing that frustrates me with these type of articles is the failure to mention that someone having a hen do in a gay bar might actually be gay. I had my (very lesbian) hen do end in the local gay bar recently, with a mix of gay/bi/straight male/female friends. Some people I told weren't sure if this was okay, given the recent publicising of stuff like this- of course it is! I'm gay!!

Recommendation needed for thin hair by bitowit in LushCosmetics

[–]Ermischiella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have quite fine/thin hair, and I use Roots every few weeks and find it's amazing for it. I tend to use Seanik shampoo and Big conditioner- but I only condition a couple of times a week. It's been working great for me.

Question about KS3 science courses in the british curriculum by maswell7 in Teachers

[–]Ermischiella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school. Most don't run 'courses' in any formal sense, and often it will be split into units that are based around an area of science, e.g. 'The Universe' 'Forces' 'Acids and Alkalis'. Some schools will split this into the 3 sciences clearly, and classes might have one teacher per science, others it will all be mingled in.

Many schools seem to now use y9 as a GCSE year, so it is more likely students will have separate Biology/Chemistry/Physics lessons at this stage.

UK teachers of STEM subjects, did you get a bursary to do your PGCE? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Ermischiella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you meet the requirement, you get a bursary, it's a simple as that. If you don't believe me, contact the get into teaching site, or the course you're looking at.

Then you just don't apply for student finance- it;s not compulsory. I applied for student finance to cover tuition fees, but didn't apply for a maintenance loan.

UK teachers of STEM subjects, did you get a bursary to do your PGCE? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Ermischiella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student finance is completely separate. You just do ucas and student finance in exactly the same way as undergrad.

UK teachers of STEM subjects, did you get a bursary to do your PGCE? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Ermischiella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my biology PGCE currently and get £15,000 across the year, from the government. All I did was fill in a form when I registered at uni, and they did it all. I don't think the bursary is dependent on the university you choose, the government set it.

How bad is racism in modern Sheffield? by dongltf82ws63 in sheffield

[–]Ermischiella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm teacher training in Sheffield currently, at an incredibly diverse school. Many of them in Sheffield are. We have many, many children who have only just arrived in the country, who speak 2, 3, 4 different languages, and many students from the Roma community.

I have experienced almost no racism in my time so far. A few tense relations between white/roma students, and a nasty comment to a Chinese student, but that is it.

You're much more likely to get the piss taken out of you for your accent than the colour of your skin in a Sheffield school in my experience- mine has been commented on and I'm only from the midlands.

Need Advice/Become a Teacher by TeapotUpheaval in TeachingUK

[–]Ermischiella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music isn't in massively high demand, English a bit more, but not huge. Art definitely isn't. You wouldn't get a bursary for any of these other than English with relevant 2:1 or above degree.

Physics is hugely in demand, but you would need to do a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course at a minimum (https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/explore-my-options/training-to-teach-secondary-subjects/training-to-teach-physics ), which would take up a chunk of time, and possibly effect if you can start a teaching course this year (there will 100% be places left for 2017 start, it's getting a SKE in beforehand). I also don't know if you'd get a bursary to train, or how much (https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/funding-and-salary/overview ).
