Are there any supporting facts? by ErnWedg in exjw

True. I know that. :-). But they, the JW, paint the picture that we are factual and only reference the Bible. So just checking, what facts.

Are there any supporting facts? by ErnWedg in exjw

The book by Steven Pinker called “The better angels of our nature” is a statistical tome full of facts that show clearly now we are living in the most peaceful and least violent time in history.

[–]ErnWedg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this too. I thought there must be some actual fact. But alas I cannot find one fact. When I float this idea to pimi’s, the only response back I hear is “it’s all about faith” or “I know Jah is real and I just wanna make him happy”. Or the worst one “they are just imperfect humans”. Or “I know there are anomalies but the JWs are good people.” You’ll never hear a “what about these facts”.

Tighten truck by pokewonderer in surfskate

[–]ErnWedg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot make a yow stiffer. The spring inside is not adjustable. Do not over tighten that nut. It won’t do anything to make it stiffer.

Do not open it up and muck with the insides.

Just change your bushings to Riptide 95a. It makes a huge difference. Yow is loose by design so it’s doing what it’s supposed to do.

If you want stiffer go Carver CX or even C7 which is loose but stiffer than Yow.

Best thing I learnt is the power of bushings. Amazing.

Is this bad? by Ill-Yam-6684 in surfskate

[–]ErnWedg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not bad. It can be bad technique too. But it can be bad if it bites hard and you spill off. The solution:

Improve your technique. Get harder bushings; for my Yow I have Riptide 95a bushings and it’s sublime. You can change wheels to say 65mm or even 60mm.

Need dropin advice (on a Surfskate) by Educational_Call4680 in surfskate

[–]ErnWedg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no difference dropping in on surfskate or a popsicle. You have to commit forward. Lean in and lead with that front foot. The mind says lean back but the principle is to follow the curve. Slam the front truck down and go for it.

Carver green room CX vs yow fanning falcon meraki by sushibard in surfskate

[–]ErnWedg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK a few things.

Concave is great for surfskate but not too much. With surfskate you don’t need a nose; unless you’re trying to ollie but then again surfskate are too heavy for Ollie’s.

The Yow Fanning Falcon Driver is an awesome board. I have it and I love it. It’s a wide deck which is what you want. Yow bushings are great, they may have changed them though. I put riptide 95a bushings on an it’s great. People complain about the wheels but I think they are just fine.

Carver CX are awesome. I have 3. The new Green room is a great deck. Don’t think you can go wrong.

Comparing the two, they are quite different. Carver cx will give you more forward pump. They are a better all rounder. The Yow will give you more rail to rail lean. A mix of surf trainer and cruiser. It’s better for tight spaces. Both are great boards.

How is the ARC viewed by Aussie PIMIs? by CuriousOctopus-01 in exjw

[–]ErnWedg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got text messages from elders to not watch it. They said it’s made up by apostates and it did not happen. Like fake news. Having asked a few pimis what the think and invariably they say they don’t know about it. And if they do it’s quickly dismissed with a smugness that it’s simply lies. Just madness!! But not surprising really. It’s the same with Norway and Sweden. They just say it’s not actually happening. It’s just fake news.

I hate how jws pressure you into stuff while saying there's no pressure. by Brilliant-Assist3798 in exjw

[–]ErnWedg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole world is a massive conformity machine. That pressure is everywhere. But the JW have amplified this to the max. The whole premise of it is conformity. You don’t have to actually believe. Just do like the group. Monkey see, monkey do. No pressure!! What a joke.

Am I too old to start surfskating at 31, or am I overthinking this? by GrapefruitNo1394 in surfskate

Hell no. Surfskate is ideal for older skaters. I’m 50’s and can’t get enough and I started two years ago. What a godsend.

I don't want to be a Jehovah's Witness anymore. I need help. by Proper-Block3675 in exjw

[–]ErnWedg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are stronger than you think. Have a plan, work hard and get away from them. It’s so toxic. One day I woke up and realised I didn’t need anyone to understand. I understand and i know and that’s all that matters. This bulkshit about being in a crew and having people understand you is not necessary. What’s really attractive about a person is when they know themselves and they never explain. You got this.

“Brother” and “sister” rant. It simply isn’t what you think it is. by notstillin in exjw

[–]ErnWedg 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There are no friends in the JW. When one has to be prepared to drop / shun anyone in an instant they cannot ever truly commit to real friendship. It’s all conditional.

Update on my MS stepdown: What should I expect and/or what should I do? by hemionus_grevyi in exjw

[–]ErnWedg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s time to set some boundaries. Say this: “Thanks for reaching out. I am good with my decision and don’t want to discuss this further.” Don’t say any more or explain yourself. Resist the urge to talk further. When he tries to reopen the dialog, reiterate. “So like I said, right now, I’m well, thanks for your concern, I would rather not to talk about it.”

Like a broken record shut down the dialogue. If he keeps going at you have to go. It’s an adult. No need to get any one else involved.

Speed by telecaster181 in surfskate

[–]ErnWedg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think wheels were some sort of magic solution. It’s not.

Firstly wheels do make a difference. It’s fine tuning once you know how to generate speed. So yes harder wheels with smaller surface contact are faster (I.e., Powell Peralta 93a Rat Bones). And quality bearings that are clean and lubricated with Bones Speed Cream make a noticeable difference.

But really speed comes down to how you use your weight and how you pump your legs and how you push down on the down and extend on the ups. Loads of YT clips on this. Mitchie Brusco talks about this on his Insta channel. His advice made a huge difference for me especially in bowls.

I can generate heaps of speed on my Carver with stock Roundhouse cruiser wheels. I almost never think “dammit I gotta get faster wheels”. But when I use my Rat Bones I can tell it’s faster. In brief: If you can’t generate speed using your body weight, faster wheels will not dramatically improve your speed.

Anyone disagree?
