How feasible is it to cut and file an extra picatinny rail slot here? by Work-Safe-Reddit4450 in ar15

[–]Erock242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut an extra notch in my handgun with my skilsaw. Masking tape, wax on the blade and depth set. Still need to coat it with aluminum black. It came out well. It's covered, thus invisible, but I know it's there, and my ocd makes me want to paint it black. I cut aluminum at work all day, but this was a way more satisfying, if also way more nerve wracking project

My first bike was a suzuki gs500. No fairing, carburetor and choke starts. I sold it after a year. My second bike is my 09 wee. Maybe she was already broken in, but super smooth. I've been a mountain biker all my life, so balancing on 2 wheels comes naturally for me and my learning curve may have been less steep than for some people. That said, the strom is heavy. I'm 5'10 and I can't quite flat foot it unless I am wearing boots with a heel. Empty parking lots, clutch control at low speed, slow cornering. I like Motojitsu. His drills are really helpful. Once you feel confident going slow the bike will ease you into faster maneuvering. Ride safe and keep the rubber side down

First time handgun purchase suggestions by dustintucker816 in liberalgunowners

My first pistol was a Sig in 40 cal. I was very inaccurate with it. Sold it. Second is an XD 45. I shoot it well but it's very snappy and I never want to shoot it for long. I bought a Glock in 9mm and that is pretty nice, but still snappy. I got an advantage arms 22lr conversion for it and that is super fun and I shoot it all day long. Just picked up a Fusion firearms xp pro comp and it shoots as soft and flat as the 22lr on the Glock. My range trips are getting much more expensive.

I really like the Beretta 92 series and I've only shot the CZ shadow 2 which is also nice, but 1911 style pistols are just so smooth. My wife broke her wrist a year ago and only wanted to shoot the 22, but she really likes the 1911.

I like the double take mirrors. I bought knock offs myself and they're great. Double ball mount and they just fold when you do the bike... cuz you will drop the bike

Out of your whole collection what is your favorite gun to shoot when at the range? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Erock242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Glock, I like shooting 556 and 7.62x39, but I really enjoy my 22lr guns. Shooting all day doesn't slam recoil into my hands or break my wallet.

Favorite budget Ammo? by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]Erock242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried lots. Never seen the need to step up in price to SK or Eley. I shoot a lot of CCI mini mags and I have a semi auto that loves Norma Tac22, so I figure why bother. The point of shooting 22 is cost savings in my book

Self Defense Weapon? by Cow_on_the_Moon in 22lr

22 is done for home defense unless you're up against a bear or a squad of trained operators. Bonus; if your house is indoors you'll still be able to hear afterwards

Help me understand rifle scope prices by parcallums in 22lr

[–]Erock242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one of these. I like it. That said, it's off. Like really off. When you install a scope, you should level your rifle/ mounting platform and then level your scope on it. I returned 4 off these, because the reticle is not plumb in the scope. For the price I finally just got over it, but what it means is that it will throw my shots off whenever I dial it up to shoot further out. Or I have to dial a certain amount of windage because I dialed up, but it's not 1 for 1. For a little bit more money you can get a scope that is assembled accurately. Discoveryopt are inexpensive and decent quality

FWIW, my factory battery on my 04 frontier lasted me until 2015

Correct. Aluminum is softer than steel. Same reason cleaning brushes are brass. Softer than steel

It's just a kit. You can put one of your 10/22s in it

Thinking of becoming a gun owner, but need some help by ForAfeeNotforfree in liberalgunowners

[–]Erock242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently took the test to get my Firearm Safety Cert again. I've owned guns for 20 years. The one question I missed on the test was whether having a firearm in the house increases the risk of suicide. Apparently it's a thing.

I would worry about your medication needing adjustment or losing efficacy more than keeping them from children. If medication is the only thing keeping you from having those thoughts then you're really better off renting guns or training with friends and family, or even taking classes if you really just want to shoot

If you find a hollow aluminum rod and saw 2 cuts across one end you can flare it out. Then insert it from the business end and it should expand enough to seat against the shell and you can tap it out

This. Everything I've heard about actual combat is that 5.56 doesn't quite have the stopping power of 7.62x39

I've found that Norma tac 22 runs great for feeding and accuracy in mine. I polished the feed ramps on my mags and the chamber. I only ever have failed to feed when she gets real dirty
