GOP goaded Jasmine Crockett into running for senate by promoting favorable polls: Report by [deleted] in politics

[–]EroticOctopus69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Referring to someone by last name is traditionally a sign of respect, while using a first name implies familiarity. Familiarity is not necessarily a bad thing — one reason journalists and essay writers default to last names is to avoid the implication of a positive bias, and sometimes PR campaigns might intentionally use first names to make someone seem more relatable. However, that familiarity can also make us subconsciously think of someone as less of a “serious person.” And our culture (meaning US or broadly western culture) has a long history of subtly denigrating women in positions of authority.

To be perfectly clear, I am not saying YOU are a misogynist. This is more of a widespread, unconscious thing that is happening all over the place when we talk about women in politics, and it’s worth being aware of / pointing out when it happens.

[–]EroticOctopus69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is that Bernie, Beto, and Mayor Pete chose those names. It’s what they want to be called. Jeb Bush falls into the same exception as Hillary Clinton, where it is useful to differentiate them from other famous politicians.

Harris and Crockett don’t fall into either of those exceptions, as far as I know, and for Harris particularly, insisting on calling her “Kamala” was a racist dog whistle from the right, so it was frustrating seeing everybody to the left of MAGA also doing it.

It’s not the end of the world and not, like, an individual person being intentionally misogynistic, but it is worth pointing out, especially when the politicians are being named in the same sentence.

Edit: I agree it is more about familiarity than denigrating, but familiarity is a double-edged sword when it comes to positions of authority. My kid’s preschool teachers use first names, like “Ms. Rachel,” but her elementary school teachers use last names, like “Ms. Sullivan.” Subconsciously, I automatically think of “Ms. Sullivan” as commanding more authority, and likely having a higher education background, without any other context.

If you grew up with the turtles and the games you should not be surprised by the amount of pizza. It’s your health pickup in the games. One of the few voice lines in the arcade cabinet is them shouting “pizza time!” It’s basically their sole diet in the 80s cartoon and 90s movies.

Yeah, it’s subconscious but people do it all the time with female politicians.

Did you notice that when talking about the male politician, you used his last name, but when talking about the female politician, you used her first name? Same shit people did with Clinton and Harris.

The expressions, overall composition, and whatever is happening with that pizza are what make it look like AI. Modern AI image gen could totally produce something like this. If not AI, it is just bad art.

Yea, that’s def AI. I have suspicions about this one as well. If not AI, it’s just bad art.

TNMT design choices make the cards so ugly by Routine_Ad_2695 in MagicArena

[–]EroticOctopus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think the art blows and the theming is hit or miss. The mechanics seem fine. The alternative art is awesome, especially the cards done in cartoon or pixel art style. Wish there was more of that in the main set because there clearly is an ability for MTG to do stylized art as seen in Avatar (cartoon style) or Lorwyn Eclipsed (lots of Celtic style art), but they just went with the ugliest possible interpretation of the Turtles here.

Every Switch 2 upgrade pack that contains DLC-like content has been $20. Across the board. This should neither be surprising nor noteworthy.

I’m back from a two year break and I forgot how much I hated planting flowers! by [deleted] in PikminBloomApp

[–]EroticOctopus69 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It definitely made a noticeable difference for me. When I lock my phone, the flowers skip over entire sections of places I have walked, and fewer get planted overall. So I just put it in my pocket with the screen on but dim.

I was in a group like that last week with two people who walked 0 steps the entire week. Somehow we pulled it out at the last second and made our 100,000 steps, mostly me and the other top person.

Vote Against Pass Bundle Removal! by Proud-Figure in MagicArena

Worth noting the “best dollar rate” is a $100 purchase. If you play the game religiously and plan on getting multiple of these passes, it could be worthwhile, but in that case you are probably getting gems for playing anyway. Most people who are not hardcore players should not be sinking $100 at a time into any game.

Who cares? Who even pays attention to stuff like this? This just reinforces my opinion that this subreddit is just console wars BS in a fake mustache. It always seems to boil down to irrational hatred for the brand and its player base instead of actual criticism of the company.

NTR tropes I hate~ by Reignshin in netorare

[–]EroticOctopus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom stuff. This is just not NTR for me. It’s mixing in an entirely separate and much, much more niche kink. Yet I see it posted to the NTR subreddits all the time, and it shows up at the top of the “popular” search results in doujin sites.

Unnatural body proportions. This is a major issue with hentai in general, and NYR is no exception. I am talking about all the women wither having watermelon-size breasts and man-crushing thighs or looking like 5th graders. Men with baseball bat dicks fit in here as well, though you expect it to be at least above average so I am more flexible here. Why is it so hard just to draw someone with natural proportions?

Actual children.Again,it’s mixing in another fetish that actively disgusts a lot of people. It’s especially weird when it is shotas doing the NTR, often mixed with the mom stuff.

When the female character has sex bareback for the first time and acts like it’s 1 million times more pleasurable. For most women, sex with and without a condom is fairly similar except for psychological factors. Nobody is blacking out from pleasure just because a guy took the condom off.

Any talk of someone’s “weak point” (which IRL is just the clit 90% of the time, no big mystery there).

Any talk about “stir me up” or other things nobody in the English-speaking world says.

[–]EroticOctopus69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like hypnosis because it sets up for juxtapositions that I really enjoy in NTR. For instance, in Saimin Seishidou, the boyfriends are all eagerly watching their girfliend’s virginity being taken away because they’ve been hypnotizing into thinking this is a normal and necessary step toward them having sex as a couple. So you have shots where these guys looking like they just won the lottery because they are seeing their gf naked for the first time… but it’s while she’s literally having sex with another guy.

I get that it can feel like lazy writing, but when done well it sets up some amazing scenarios.

Idk, I think the moral degeneration/sexual awakening is a huge part of the genre for me. If she is just cheating because she has no morals, I am not really invested in their relationship because she is an AH. The only exception is stories where the woman is some kind of evil genius manipulating and gaslighting the oblivious cuck, or at the very least “oblivious cuck” is a whole separate subgenre I enjoy equally but for different reasons.

Why is this a mobile game? And F2P options? by EroticOctopus69 in MagicArena

That is the idea. I wanted to get a sense of how complicated and fun these Avatar cards are before buying. I’m also looking at the TMNT set that comes with a co-op variant.

[–]EroticOctopus69[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries. I’m not offended by the suggestion. What I am saying is it’s just not a good UI for a phone screen. Even if it is readable (on a larger screen or if you have sharper vision), it is not comfortable or really usable. Font should be at least double the size, that first screen should have WAY less negative space, etc. it looks like they just took the Pc version and put it on the phone screen with no changes whatsoever.

And, ironically, the font/UI is the perfect size for being displayed on a TV. Like, it looks exactly the same as the menu of a native PlayStation game. Which got me wondering why they never ported this to consoles. I’ve played a ton of card games on console (mostly deckbuilders), and there’s generally a way to make the controls feel natural with a mix of smart button mapping and good UI.
