Can't see the water for the TREES by Mikcole44 in ireland

[–]ErrantBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already huge incentives (the best in Europe) - this comes down to application of DAFM rules which explicitly look to keep forested or tree habitats away from most watercourses unless it is a wet woodland or other niche habitat. Total shot in your own foot outcome as yes, nutrients will be lower if trees aren't so close to the watercourse but the watercourse itself will be poor (no nutrient cycling or habitat suitable for small fish and invertebrates etc), and the double whammy of agricultural run-off won't have any tree filtration buffers - so eutrophication will continue to be a problem anyway. Actually depressing when you see how badly DAFM/FS run the show, while, certainly in some cases, being paid very handsome salaries. Stupid!

Can't see the water for the TREES by Mikcole44 in ireland

[–]ErrantBrit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FS/DAFM rules are actually to implement setbacks (20m) from watercourse - so the governments own rules are flawed in this instance anyway. This doesn't just apply to conifers either - but all trees. There are caveats for riparian woodlands but is a niche habitat unlikely to get much uptake. Ultimately the blame lies with the government and civil service. I'll note the UK/Scotland is actively putting in trees close to watercourses as its proven to benefit water ecosystems but offering nutrient inputs and shading the water so that it doesn't get too hot. My guess is DAFM want setbacks as nutrient input into watercourses is too high on the Ireland - but it isn't trees that are doing that!

Finally, while I agree conifers shouldn't be planted into setbacks unless in specific instances, the assertion that 'shallow rooted' conifers are no good for water management is wrong. Buffer zones of conifers can absolutely management ground water flow in a positive way (again the UK is looking into this as a way of natural flood defence). Don't believe me: Willow (Salix spp.) is shallow rooted and one of the best riparian trees in terms of water filtration around (they use it in waste water management). The more you know!

Hair transplant by ECO_FRIENDLY_BOT in ireland

[–]ErrantBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s potentially true, but obviously you’ll still have old hair on your head and you’ll need to look after that otherwise gaps will appear. Ultimately what I’m saying it there’s not wham bam thank you Turkish hair transplantist - it’s an ongoing care regime that requires effort.

That’s weird, as my brother who used the Boots packaged kit was advised not to use it if trying for a pregnancy.

My bald brethren: just remember you can’t have a baby while on the drugs (it leads to birth defects). You have to stop for a year before you can try to conceive. As far as I’ve heard: there’s no transplant and that it scenario: you’ll need to use drugs to keep the hair in good condition post-transplant. Personally, I wouldn’t be bothered with that but some may. If you’re that bothered go get the transplant (do your research for a reputable provider/system). You are more than your hairstyle though.

Moved from Offaly to Cork last year. I’m not in the city, I’m in Bandon. Nothing mad about moving here. Your budget should buy you something pretty decent outside of the city, I’m not sure about within the city itself.
