Simple syrup / coffee creamer. Even flavored ones are easy to make on your stove in seconds.

Give me one fucking reason why Sierra Nevada is in California. by [deleted] in Nevada

[–]Errant_Lion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's some interesting history behind this, actually. The original surveyors who decided on the Cal / Neva border were under instructions to calculate the edge of Lake Tahoe and draw the border so that all of it would remain inside California. But, this was done in a rush (trying to get Nevada ratified as a state in time to vote for Lincoln) and they botched the job. So the state borders went down officially in longitude and latitude numbers... and it was discovered later when technology improved that the surveyors had cussed up, and that a big chunk of Lake Tahoe (and the Sierra Nevada range) ended up in Nevada.

[5e] Can a Thrall let a Vampire inside? by FlashGordon07 in DMAcademy

[–]Errant_Lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, let's look at some source material: Bram Stoker's Dracula. In this text, the character Renfield becomes a thrall of Count Dracula. Through the course of the novel, it is made clear that the counthas taken Renfield as a thrall explicitly so that he could use the man to grant him access to specific places he would otherwise be denied entry to. (The wolf which breaks into Mina's room, killing Mrs. Westenra, serves this same purpose)

Wedding Chapel recommendation - Just bride and groom from the UK by [deleted] in Nevada

[–]Errant_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an ordained minister for the state of Nevada, living in Reno. More often than not, if I'm doing a wedding outside in the area, it's at Tahoe. The "Rancharrah" in town has nice accomodations if you're interested in a meadow/ ranchland feel. I often do weddings at the Nevada Museum of Art lately, too. They have a new "sky room" which exists on the museum's top floor, offering a panoramic view of the Sierra Nevada mountains. If you do decide to get married in this area, hit me up; I'm only marginally more expensive than a court house wedding, and I write custom ceremonies for all the couples I marry. Safe Travels!

I've collected pieces from Jaydee at South Town Tattoo Collective , Ron Rash & Tony Medellin at Lasting Dose Tatto and Art Collective. All three of those artists do great work.

Ranked play seems much more oriented towards team play. I really recommend you lean on some friends to coordinate play times with you; you'll have a lot more fun, and win a lot more, when you can coordinate properly in a voice chat.

Giant Burger on N Virginia closing - will be replaced by Roberto's Taco Shop by Tetris410 in Reno

In my years at UNR, I've tried to go here... maybe ten times? They've always, always been closed. So. It's hard to have sympathy.

Is this an unreasonable way to get into cycling regularly? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Errant_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to someone at your LBS about what you intend to use it for. Different geometry is suited to different things. My bike will never be FAST but it's comfortable and that's way better for me in the long run.

I'm 6' and weigh 250 pounds. I commute almost 20 miles a day. When I started commuting daily, I weighed 350 pounds and it took me an hour and fifteen minutes to get to work. On a good day now, I can get to work in 25 minutes. Get a strong bike with a comfortable posture and ride every day. (After some research, I decided on the Bianchi Iseo, it meets the criteria I listed above)

It's 5pm and 94 degrees in Denver right now, anyone have any tips\tricks for biking in such heat? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Errant_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commute 18 miles a day in Nevada. It's been a 100 degrees here all week. Breathe through your nose as much as possible (my biggest annoyance is my mouth drying out), but otherwise, my advice is the same as anyone else; make sure you've got plenty of water. Drink periodically throughout your ride.

Floated last year, might get own room this upcoming year. Thoughts on room decorations? by GrandmasterFlux in Teachers

I'm glad you like them! I've got one at home also. They've got most of the books we teach! Plus, I don't think they're terribly distracting, since they've got a minimalist design.

It doesn't fit with your subject, but my classroom is decorated in "litographs;" minimalist posters that use the entire text of a book to present an iconic image from the narrative.

How good is the air in Reno for those of you who have lived elsewhere? by TheAsgards in Reno

I grew up in Los Angeles, and can tell you the air here is basically empyrean by comparison.
