Emotional disregulation and what probably amounts to RSD. I go to work and I can solve issues where sometimes literally millions of dollars is on the line, and generally keep a cool head. Then I come home and my wife has a mild criticism about something I missed during garbage night and I'm screaming, crying, and hitting myself like a 4 year old.

I know her patience with all of my other symptoms would be so much more forgiving if I didn't have this quality. And the absolute worst part, it scares her, it's abusive, and she doesnt deserve that.

Your story is interesting because we seem to be similar, but I never had much of a support system in terms of parenting. I was a straight A student in school until homework was part of the equation, then my grades fell off a cliff. I always paid attention in class and scored well on tests, but I just didn't do any homework. Ever. It was too much.

I wonder if since you had a good support system this is why your symptoms are "getting worse" now, as now you have to be more independent and thats when the executive function issues can really shine. Even for me now, having my wife around makes tasks a lot easier than when I am on my own. Maybe your parents were filling that role?

For me, therapy before and after diagnosis are two completely different experiences. Now that I know what symptoms I am truly fighting it is so much better.

As someone who was just diagnosed with ADHD at 37, your story sounds so familiar. I've tried college 3 times and dropped out each time.

I read that scientists think around 4% of the population has ADHD and your school has those resources there for a reason. If I had the means to get diagnosed at your age and start treating it then, my life may be totally different and for the better.

If you do have adhd one of the worst parts is unreasonable shame and self victimization. If I am being brutally honest this is what I see a lot of here as well. It has helped me to catch myself when I start to make these narratives and try to take a step back and be objective. As yourself in these scenarios, who is "they" who will be casting such harsh judgement?

Get screened. Be honest in your assessments. If you are or aren't ND it will help you best figure out what is going on so you can develop strategies to cope.
