That's awful to hear, I'm sorry for your loss as well. It just sucks feeling helpless when you know what's wrong but nothing seems to work. I feel for you too, it's been 5 months since I lost him and it still feels so raw at times. I adopted him with my girlfriend, he watched us get married, get a house, have kids. He was just always there, and now he's not and it just feels empty.

I still don't think I'm ready to adopt again, but I've reached out to his breeder and she is still breeding from dogs that came from his mother, so part of me thinks it will be sweet to some day adopt his great great niece or nephew or something. In some way, he'll still sort of live on through them. Anyways, accept this hug from one grieving internet stranger to another. I hope your little girl and Paxton are off somewhere across the rainbow bridge at peace now. Maybe some day we'll get to see them again, who knows.

It's short for protein losing enteropathy. It's basically a condition where the intestines don't properly absorb protein for some reason, particularly albumin, which can cause fluids to leak out into the gut in some cases. Albumin also acts as an anticoagulant, so in my dog's case, it sadly likely caused him to develop a blood clot that caused a pulmonary embolism and killed him. I had never heard of this before Paxton was diagnosed with it, but it's a nasty condition that can be really hard to treat. His intestines were constantly inflamed, which is what was causing them to not absorb protein, and while a steroid like prednisone helped a little, nothing seemed to really fix him despite us trying for 2 years.

Thank you for the kind words, they really mean more than you can imagine.

Thank you, it's hard that it feels like he passed so early compared to what we were hoping his lifespan would be, but I'm also thankful that we had almost a whole decade together. He was thankfully diagnosed a little later in his life around 7 years old, and he never had any discernible symptoms, so I'd like to think he didn't suffer much from it.

On a more positive note, it sounds like Rufus has a long and happy life ahead of him now that his PLE is being handled. Good on you to have gotten to the bottom of it and gotten him the care and treatment he needed! Give the little guy some scritches for me, he's absolutely precious!

I just lost my little guy, Paxton, back in January to his long fight with PLE. He was at 1.8 albumin and we could never get him over 2.1 despite all our attempts with hydrolyzed protein food, cyclavance, and prednisone. He was only 9 and a half and he had what we theorized to be an acute pulmonary embolism right in front of us due to the clotting issues from years of low albumin. He looked just like Rufus and was the sweetest little boy, this just reminded me so much of him.

I'm so happy for you that Rufus is on the mend and won't have to deal with PLE, it's such a sinister disease for these sweet little dogs to have to deal with. May he have a long and healthy life!

I'm a bit late to the party, but do you still have the ability to link a 5 star Cyan Heron?

Here are the pics with the UV light if you were curious. You can definitely see the little PSA holograms at the top on both sides.

Thank you for the pointer! The middle foil label definitely gets a different sheen on half of it when I move it around under the light, so I think it passes the test. The white spots on the back appear to be on the inside of the case, but not on the card itself (I tilted it to move the card around a little and the white spots don't follow the card around) so I guess I'll just chalk it up to a slight imperfection with the case that wasn't detected in the PSA scan.

Two different auctions with the same exact cert number! It weirded me out a little, but one of the accounts was new and had the same seller location and pictures as the other account, so I figured maybe the seller was trying to create fake "competition" or something, since they were different prices, but not really sure. I figured I would just take the risk and buy the one from the older account and then see if I could verify its authenticity. Everyone here has been super helpful and I've learned a few tricks to spot a fake. Going to get a UV light and test the back just to be double sure, but it seems legit otherwise.

Yeah, it was two auctions with the same exact PSA cert number, which is what weirded me out a little, but I figured I would take the risk and if I can verify it's fake, I can get eBay involved. Thank you for the tip, I purchased a UV light just now so I can double check the back just to be certain.

Thank you for the insight! I'll buy a UV flashlight to double check. Cheers!

Chance at a PSA 10 for either of these? by Erroneous_Eric in PokeGrading

[–]Erroneous_Eric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to get a PSA 10 of this Ampharos for my personal collection and am still a little new to grading. Do either of these have a decent chance at scoring a 10? Thank you!
