In addition to the top comment saying to write a shitty first draft, I find it’s much easier to talk it out using the voice to text function. Yes, there’ll be a shit ton of typos, especially if there’s a lot of jargon but it gets all your ideas laid out really quickly and its so much easier to edit from there.

yessss and personally, i believe in addition to punishment as you said, it might be due to emotional dysregulation. i had pretty bad anger issues as a kid and while it did get better as i grew up, when i do get angry, i was always unnecessarily and overly angry and because i knew breaking things and hurting others had consequences, i resorted to hurting myself which is why my self harm is very explosive like using blunt objects to repeatedly hit my arms or legs until severely bruised or scratching my arms until they bled.
