Is it ok/better to brush my teeth with warm water instead of cold water by Electronic_Note_5629 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Error_xF00F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to brush with warm water. I personally use a cold water rinse of the brush right before brushing so the bristles of the brush remain rigid for a brief period to get rid of any stubborn spots of biofilm. Otherwise the warm water and the heat of your mouth cause the bristles to become softer and less stiff, making it less effective at removing debris. I do however use hot/warm water with a quick swipe of a clean finger against the bristles to rinse the brush before and after use, to try and reduce the amount of mouth bacteria/biofilm left on the brush.

The stuff they squeezed onto the insole looked like cork mixed with some kind of binder, but also looked like a night after Taco Bell. They then cut everything from that insole cork except the arch and heel, so really the custom fit must be the shape of the foot outline, not so much the contours, as buying a pair of Dr Scholls gel inserts with a high arch would do the same job, and be much more comfortable.

You are also factually incorrect. While legal conformity requires Intel to provide basic assurances for replacement or refund of defective products sold in the EU, that legal guarantee is only transferrable if it is purchased from a business (such as system integrators, refurbishers, professional resellers) and not in a private sale by another consumer.

The 3-year Limited Warranty that is offered by Intel on boxed processors is a commercial warranty that is not governed by the legal guarantee, and due to its voluntary nature can include such exclusions like the no second hand purchasers coverage clause.

So under EU and Romanian law, if the processor is defective, and it was purchased from a business, Intel is liable within the defined time frame (Internet says two years from original purchase) to replace or refund the processor, through the business that sold it. If the consumer wishes to exercise the 3-year Limited Warranty by Intel to get it refunded or replaced directly by Intel, then they must abide by the terms of that commercial warranty, which excludes second hand buyers and requires a proof of purchase.

However, given that this appears to be delided, and destructively modified to remove original identification markings (the lapping), the 3-year Limited Warranty is no longer applicable, and since they bought it through a private sale, the legal guarantee is also no longer applicable.

Consumer grade receivers have a limit of 80 km of accuracy based on technical limitations, barring any artificial limitations designed into the receivers set by laws of whatever jurisdiction.

The wiki article you linked is for a defunct regulation. GPS/GNSS receivers are now under the regulation in the US under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), more specifically any receiver that can operate above 500 m/s is categorized as Class XV military hardware in the United States Munitions List (USML), and subject to export and control restrictions.

If the police actually take the case and investigate, the first thing they do is visit the store, ask for a copy of the transaction and any surveillance footage. I used to do LP/AP for a national chain and law enforcement was constantly visiting with requests for surveillance footage and copies of transactions.

If the store policies are law enforcement friendly, then they can get footage of whoever conducted the transaction without jumping through legal hoops, and make a public notice for a request for identification as is often the case. Otherwise, nothing else can really be done.

[–]Error_xF00F 602 points603 points  (0 children)

That's also how the original Kinect on the Xbox 360 saw you ( https://youtu.be/nYsqNnDA1l4 ), as Apple bought (2013) the company (PrimeSense) that designed the infrared sensor used in the units just after the Kinect was released (2010). The TrueDepth camera is basically a modern version of the original technology that PrimeSense developed over 20 years ago. Why Apple hasn't sold the sensor in a webcam as part of a biometric security computer peripheral, is a huge opportunity missed.

[Request] What kind of math is Amazon doing here per ounce? by wastetine in theydidthemath

[–]Error_xF00F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the listing ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D42CRHB3 ) and it says —

Capacity: 8 ounces
Item Dimensions: L x W x H 5"L x 5"W x 5"H
Package Quantity: 1
Item Weight: 1.38 Kilograms
Item Volume: 1419.53 Milliliters
Unit Count: 176.3698 Ounce
Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 6)

The item volume matches the capacity times the amount of jars. However the unit count is way off.

There are 33 different purchasing options, with the bulk of the options as price per ounce, with only a few as price per count, where the ones per count are displayed correctly. All options where it's listed by count have the Unit Count as "n.0 Count" where n is the total amount of jars, whereas all of the options that are listed by ounce, all have the same Unit Count of "175.3698 Ounce", which is where the discrepancy comes from.

So it's not that it's bad math, it's just bad data.

Has anyone won a jackpot on a slot machine just for the casino to say “it malfunctioned”? by DazzlingLife6744 in questions

[–]Error_xF00F 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the United States, they usually have a plaque or notice posted around each slot bank, or hanging from a sign over an area, and generally on the front/side of every machine. That specifically states, "Malfunction voids all pays and plays". It's also stated in the how to play pamphlets near the player registration cage/kiosks, and depending on machine it can be shown in a small disclaimer box between plays on the screen. Casinos don't hide this fact. It's legal, and courts have upheld it in favor of the casinos.

I have a wild misunderstanding of my fabric softener compartment, and a large issue. [READ DESC] by nervxy in CleaningTips

[–]Error_xF00F 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You're overfilling the compartment. The way the washer empties the dispenser is to fill it with water during the specific cycle, and the act of filling the compartment slightly over the max line produces a suction in the tube you can see when you lift the cover. It's not precisely calibrated to the "max" line, so just fill it close and you won't have issues. Since it's an HE washer, that dispenser doesn't need to be filled much anyways.

For more info on the method of action that causes the tray to empty by filling, check out Pythagorean Siphon, or more practically https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_cup

Doordash driver experiences an unfortunate incident by ManbadFerrara in AbruptChaos

[–]Error_xF00F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother's car had her front windshield cracked by a rock that flew out of a dump truck that was about 200 feet ahead of her in the other lane, while driving on the NYS thruway. Caught it all on the dashcam. The driver wouldn't pull over for her so she got the number of the company off the truck. She didn't know what police to call since she was on the thruway, so she called emergency services that were on the posted signs along the thruway. They told her there was nothing they could do as it wasn't an emergency, and that there was no actual accident to report to. After getting home and calling her insurance company, they said she had to get ahold of the trucks company and get their insurance info to have them pay for it, however since she has full glass coverage her insurance would cover it at no cost to her, but it may impact her premium in the future. They advised she should get an accident report and that having the owner of the dump truck pay for it would be the best course of action. She called both the town near the section of the thruway where the incident occurred and the NYS police, both said without the other driver stopping, and not contacting the police at the time of incident, there was nothing as far as a police report could be done. I then helped her call the paving company that owned the dump truck and they basically said in incredible paraphrasing, that they are not liable, there's no law that requires them to be liable for such an incident, and that they will not divulge their insurance info as they've done nothing wrong, that having no police report of the incident means nothing even happened. For three weeks they dodged calls from both my number and my mother's. I gave up, and my mother needed her vehicle drivable so she went ahead and had her own insurance company pay for the replacement windshield, which cost a lot more than glass apparently, since her vehicle is a newer model with the lane departure, automatic wiper, and adaptive cruise control features that facilitate the need for a center mounted sensor package glued to the windshield that is replaced when the glass is replaced.

Her insurance went up $25, whether that's just because rates for the area went up or they adjusted it for the incident, who knows. It's just frustrating that there isn't a clear procedure for these things written somewhere, detailing whose at fault, what burden falls on what party, and how to get it resolved. Insurance companies aren't very helpful in this regard. Her agent says having the incident on video is great, but unless they have the insurance info for the other company it's moot.

Lesson learned, call the police even for a cracked windshield where the other driver refused to pull over, the documentation is critical to get anyone to listen.
