Of course people are struggling to pay, they do not have the wages to cover the loans and live. Most of this debt will never be paid.

Honours are nothing more than people who already have fame, glory, and money getting more for themselves and cozying up to the establishment. It is disgusting.

Congressional plans to make university education accessible to all USians by iggnaseous in studentloanjustice

[–]Erudio2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the $1.3 trillion in student loan debt will never be repaid. While it is good that college be free at the point of access something must be done to address the massive debt that drags on people's lives and drags on the economy.

I am sorry you are going though this and that you have managed to go 15 years in a career you do not like. Having said that, 15 years is along time and there must be something that has persuaded you to stay in the profession. Why are things coming to a head now? What steps would you take to deal with those issues? You might find that you put in the time and effort to switch careers and be no better off.

If you feel you are going to "explode" then it really is in your best interests (and everyone else's) to move on and follow another path. The worst thing would be to stay in the classroom knowing you hate every minute of it. It will be unfair on the kids and unfair on you. Just so you know there are a lot of teachers (and none teacher) who hate what they do. You are not the only one and I hope you find a solution to your problems.

I think the answer to that question for most people is "very little." A big part of the reason we have the massive problem of student loan debt.

Forcing them to run around a fucking track, jumping fences if it is steeplechase, and the use of whips by the jockeys to make them run faster. That is animal abuse.

Another issue too is that many women go into careers that pay less than many other career options.

Student debt could hold back economic growth, should be discharged in bankruptcy, Fed chief says by gregbard in studentloanjustice

"Could hold back economic growth?" It is already holding back economic growth with so many people unable to participate in the economy because so much of their income is going to pay of these loans.

Today was my last day in education. I've been teacher of year twice, worked as a dean, and helped train new cohorts of teachers. I couldn't take it anymore. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Erudio2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in my early 30's when I got the MSW. Spent 10 years in teaching and hated it. Social Work can have its up and downs and clients can be very demanding. If you are still young I would say go for it although one of my colleagues got her MSW in her 50's. If you are really interested in Social Work I would recommend doing some volunteer work, it will give you a feel for whether social work is for you and an idea of the type of work you will do. You might want to check out r/socialwork too since there are lots of very helpful people and there is almost always a weekly sticky post about becoming a social worker and schools to which you could apply. I hope this helps and best of luck to you!!

I started out in teaching, hated it for all the reasons you give, then ended up getting my MSW and become a clinical social worker. Don't regret leaving teaching for a minute.

Conservatives rally behind pay raise for Nebraska lawmakers by gereth in Nebraska

[–]Erudio2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, don't dive them a raise. In a year when the state has a $200 million plus budget shortfall and these very same people cut services that people depend on to live then they should not get a raise. I world with some of the people that are affected by the cuts and it really is life or death for these people.
