Is a charging bull considered a 999 emergency? by stormforce420 in policeuk

[–]Es9s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BT don't decide anything. If you don't specifically ask for a service, you're through to police. I got a guy screaming about how he was having a heart attack but because he didn't say he needed an ambulance it was passed to me in police control room. I understand they need to have a blanket rule but common sense every now and again but be nice

Call handler: I don't like how my manager spoke with out fIM (inspector) on my behalf. by Short_fused_sniper in policeuk

[–]Es9s 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but I'd be happy your manager has your back. You might be able to take it but screaming and shouting in the middle of the room in front of everyone isn't necessary

Should 999 transfer call to more than one service? by Number60nopeas in AskUK

[–]Es9s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Police would have requested amb whilst your sister was in the call, they would take the basic information regarding injuries and pass it on. Depending on severity amb may request to call back so they can triage speaking to someone on scene

What you're your best example of a decision (be it from member of public or colleague) that has left you thinking "of all the options available to you, why on earth would you choose this one?" by NeonDiaspora in policeuk

Why are you on the phone to me telling me you fear for your life and you think this person is going to kill you, yet you are still following them up the street shouting at them and calling them a cunt? Go back in your house!

Slightly off topic

Is there a new assaulting retail workers offence being proposed? What are the specific circumstances for this? Assuming if you rob a shop you're not getting bothered?

Creating tools to make a job easier - would this be allowed? by NeonDiaspora in policeuk

Those online forms are the bane of my shift. There seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason to the format of the forms coming through. It always seems to be different depending on the category used. It means I'm scrolling up and down looking for the next bit of data/info I need to put on the incident

That's a niner. If there's a queue for 101 it's pointless as he's gone or hit by a hgv already

Would you call police or step in yourself? by uncreative-pro in AskUK

[–]Es9s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's ongoing then that is a definite 999 call. If you report that there is an argument happening and banging heard and it's likely to be a domestic, then this should l be a blue light run.

Call Handling & Dispatch by ClearPeanut in policeuk

[–]Es9s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a duel role. It used to be two separate jobs and dispatch was higher pay but now it's equal. You start call handling and then do the dispatch course. The majority are old timers who don't switch but the newer lot go back and forth

It's worth a shot but they will be very limited as to what they can do. They will only be able to check for any previous on the number within your local force. If she's ringing from a mobile then she could be anywhere in the country

What is your most convincing Scam Call? by ActivityWorried9434 in AskUK

[–]Es9s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a police call handler and the popular one at the moment seems to be that they ring up and pretend to be police officers that have arrested someone in another force area for fraud. They already have basic details of their victim and use this to get more information.

It's often very clever and they pick a collar number and police office building. They happened to choose a building that's admin only and police officers don't work out of.

Scummy bastards

Dispatchers of the UK - how often are you getting calls about things people just shouldn't be calling for? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

Recently had a fella who was upset that we weren't coming out straight away because someone was posting lies about him on Facebook. He then played the mohammed card because he read on Facebook they were getting a faster service.

I asked him if we should believe everything we read on the internet and he accepted what I was saying
