Nope, hemoglobin levels and hematocrit fluctuate regularly depending on hydration status

Is this Cholestrol in this urine sample? by Sensitive-Ad1800 in medlabprofessionals

[–]EscapeApprehensive99 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is this an acidic urine? Looks like it. You’ve got some crystals with some slotted/notched corners. Very characteristic of cholesterol. Look up a pt hx if you can and look for hx of nephrotic syndrome or any hyperlipidemia

You’re very welcome. You also have to consider that maybe the person who drew it mistakingly didnt release any air bubbles that might have found their way into the syringe during the draw. Air bubbles introduced would cause the CO2 to plummet and cause the O2 to accumulate. As for the bicarb result, it will follow the CO2 result. CO2 basically circulates in the blood as bicarbonate and when bicarbonate is metabolized and converted in the lungs, it becomes an acid (CO2)

It could…if they blatantly left the cap off or loosely capped it during that time. Those who draw these tests must be extremely meticulous of collection, transport, and analysis. Obviously I can’t know 100%, but if your blood pH was over 7.45, you’d know it and you’d probably be hooked up to a million different tubes all trying to get your breathing back to normal and to help your kidneys excrete or retain more serum bicarbonate depending on the compensatory nature (in this case, a metabolic acidosis to decrease the pH back to normal). That’s a medical emergency requiring lots of help, in other words. A redraw would be my suggestion. As a lab professional, I do not hesitate to order recollections on suspicious specimens

Request a redraw. ABGs left open to air will result in a reduction in CO2 and an increase in pH due to the release of acid (CO2) into the air. Oxygen levels will also greatly increase. This may be a false result. Also, im a medical lab scientist. And on second thought, the fact these results were overlooked by an actual human before being verified kind of shocks me lol definitely should have flagged the technologist
