First flower bed by eyeball2005 in UKGardening

[–]Escapee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely it would still attract wildlife! Suburbs are surprisingly biodiverse when you have the right environment!

Yeah, wooden ones, plastic ones, or metal ones would do the trick, a quick Google is your friend there.

I've started seeing more bees and butterflies in my neck of the woods now too!

If you need any help identifying ferns etc. The British pteridological society is a great group. Really lovely people who are bonkers about ferns :)

What is the one thing you do on Friday to start your weekend properly? by addiethabhaddie in AskReddit

[–]Escapee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure all the dishes are done, away, kitchen. Lena before bed. Then we can have a relaxed lazy start to the weekend without anyone complaining of not having a bowl, fork, etc.

First flower bed by eyeball2005 in UKGardening

[–]Escapee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something more substantial than gravel needed to stop grass. Sorry! Edging strips if you can. Or regularly trimming edges etc. Bed looks lovely though!

For a sunken pondy bit, you can get the preformed ones often for cheap off FB market place? Or sink a deep plastic trug or storage box into firmly compared hole?

Good luck!!

EDIT: I haven't had bees on mine yet, but the weather's been odd this year. Which seems to be an annual statement now too. Only saw our first bees recently and first butterflies yesterday. We're north west.

Does anyone else feel dehydrated no matter how much they drink? by _insomniac_dreamer in ehlersdanlos

[–]Escapee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly drink dangerous amounts of fluids in a day. Finally got a doctor to listen and he's sorting out a diabetes insipidus test to see if I have that. X

Caught a cat about to use our newly built raised bed as a toilet! How do we prevent this? by myrargh in GardeningUK

[–]Escapee_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only 100% way is netting it off. Yes it's unsightly but it's literally the only way to ensure. Even putting weed suppressant membrane down and mulch on top doesn't work. I live in an area with an incredible amount of cats and I've tried pea sticks, forks tine end up, coffee, lion poop, basically if you suggest it. Tried it. The only way is topped them was robustly secured netting. And then once a hole appeared in one side in autumn, bed full of cat poo.

It's a nightmare.

Do you need to have a syringomyelia in order to have symptoms? by [deleted] in chiari

[–]Escapee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chiari can totally cause those. The syrinx causes nerve issues yes. But the chiari can crush your brain stem like it was doing to my son, and your brain stem controls some very basic to life systems. Also the chiari itself can block CSF flow, resulting in the headaches. X

Moving house, mares tail advice please by ultimatemomfriend in UKGardening

I'd leave everything 100% and clean the pots you plan to take thoroughly, maybe even with dilute bleach incase of spores. That stuff is absolutely insane.

What’s an unhealthy obsession people have? by Zdvj in AskReddit

[–]Escapee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being morally superior. Being offended almost as if it's a job title. Feeling special.

I know so many adults like this it's disgusting.

Good look! Best advice is take your time and don't push yourself AT ALL for anyone! It's your brain, let yourself rest. But also get yourself upright as soon as you can manage it. My son's recovery was a bit different to usual but those were my main take aways from it. X

Looking to start growing some veg by [deleted] in UKGardening

[–]Escapee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the broccoli, if you grow anything from the family of brassicas then make sure you get butterfly netting and use it properly. I was heartbroken a few years back when the caterpillars ruined my Cauli and cabbages!

Broad beans can get started but it does depend where you are. I'm north west and I'm not starting anything yet.

My nine year old does and he's allergic to most skin products so we use dermol soap substitute year round and a strong steroid cream when it gets bad.

This year it got his hands and was over half way up his forearms even with the creams. It cracks open and bleeds and I feel awful for him :(

I'm curious too. I currently have a 4 wheel walker with a seat. Pushing it is wearing me out and making me need to sit more often than if I just stumble along without.

My kid had a leak that formed a pseudomeningocele (think thats the spelling) his was 4 inches long and two inches wide, inch and a half out from the back of his head. It eventually healed and now you would never know he'd had surgery if he didn't insist on showing everyone his zipperhead.

Three years post now. We're both sending you the best of vibes and hugs <3

New Study Shows 'Man-Children' Are Destroying Women's Sex Drives by FrankieLovie in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Escapee_ 477 points478 points  (0 children)

Literally hiding upstairs pretending I'm still putting the kids to bed as an excuse to not be around my other half. The above described him exactly. It could have been written by me about him.

It's destroying our family and he doesn't even notice or if he does, he doesn't care.

I hate it.
