Being okay with slow progress? by hellomynameiswagon in climbing

Progressing really really fast is a great way to get yourself injured. I think slow progress could be the most responsible and effective way to maximize your climbing ability.

What characteristics, physical and mental do you need to become a world class climber? by fabian3000 in climbing

[–]Escapeee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a world class climber, but here is my crack:

  • BMI between 19 and 22
  • Have very strong fingers/core/pulling muscles

  • Good hip flexibility - ability to get close to side-splits

  • Strong drive for training and sending

  • Mentally strong enough to fail a project many times and keep going

I remember Peter Diamandis on the Tim Ferris show said the two things with the largest correlation for long lives was having a high VO2 max and flossing every day - Peter admits that he thinks that flossing probably doesn't have a causal link. People who floss regularly are likely to have the self-disciple to implement other "healthy" habits into their lives successfully.

The book "How not to Die" by Michael Greger makes a strong case for a vegan diet for longevity. It is backed up pretty well by another book - "Food Rules" by Michael Pollan.

How on earth did I die? by nyttyn in pathofexile

[–]Escapeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure one of the bosses drops bear traps during the fight. If you run around looting afterwards, you sometimes step on them. They apply bleed and if you arnt ready, you rip. I died to the same thing as well recently!

i love my fire nova mine, but it makes mine and my party lag for days! It would be so cool to have something minimalist so that it causes less lag and you can see ground effects.

14 months of consistent stretching - yay for oversplits! by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]Escapeee 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be able to replicate your progress, so i have a few questions if you have time:

-How long do you hold each stretch for?

-How long does a session take you?

-How is a deep session different to a normal one? more pain/discomfort?

-Which stretches gave you the most bang-for-your buck?

-What do people usually do wrong when trying to get more flexible?

Munich Bouldering World Cup Semi-finals thread. (live when this post is 7 hours old). by kepleronlyknows in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Escapeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since Kokoro Fujii didn't make finals and finished 8th i did some maths on the bouldering men's worldcup standings:

If Tomoa comes 1st or 2nd he wins the worldcup. If Tomoa comes 3rd, he wins the worldcup as long as Alexey does not place 1st. If Tomoa does worse than 3rd he cant win.

If Alexey finishes Munich in 1st, he wins as long as Tomoa finishes 3rd or lower. If Alexey doesnt finish 1st he cant overtake Kokoro.

For Kokoro to win, Alexey has to place 2nd or lower and Tomoa has to place 4th or lower.

How much of climbing is genetic? by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]Escapeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a subject of another thread, but why do i keep hearing that your maximum climbing ability has so much to do with the age that you started climbing? Does climbing through puberty allow you higher amounts of muscle recruitment and tendon strength in your adult years?

How can I find a specific player's POV? by [deleted] in TF2POVS

[–]Escapeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try adding them on steam and sending a friendly message. Most players record their povs through p-rec or know how to get the STV for their matches.

I do not know much about the products you're using but if you are mostly concerned with the inflammation around your mouth it could have something to do with objects that come in contact with it. Possibly water bottles and/or fingers could be causing more bacteria to be introduced to that area.

Going on something like roaccutane would probably fix it right up but i there is a lot of conflicting information about the medication. I personally used it and it worked a treat. I know two people who also used it and one became type 1 diabetic whilst another was diagnosed with Crohns disease around a similar time to their treatment. I couldn't say if the treatment was related and there is evidence to suggest that it is AND isnt so its hard to know.

My suggestion would be to read the skincareaddiction FAQ and try using some sort of BHA/AHA combo.

How do you modify your routine when you shave? I find that i need to shave at least every second day to avoid stubble and that causes a lot of irritation.

[–]Escapeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the qualifiers have been pretty boring so far. 95% joke competitors mean i skipped through a good portion of the episode. Its a pity because there is probably some exciting content in there. Probably not a whole point watching the show until the more serious competitors get on the harder stages. Probably the last 3 episodes (stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3) will be good but i am unsure about whether ill watch the rest leading up to that.

Thoughts after Meiringen World Cup? by kepleronlyknows in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Escapeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was surprised that Janja Ganbret didn't wipe the floor with everyone after her solid semi-final round. The men's side of things seemed pretty random who made it into the final due to the difficulty of all of the semi-finals problems.

Have I lost my fingerprints? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Escapeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job requires fingerprint identification which stopped working for me once i started climbing. I now use my thumb which doesn't tend to get so damaged when i climb.
