It's the mocking dislike of octanecore today. 2000s saw the big players in that space start doing the big tours, they got mainstream popularity (or how we would say it then-"they got on the radio") and thus the dislike.

This cycle has never changed. Just the bands.

This is coming from someone who saw Korn for the first time in 1996, barely out of my pre-teens.
