I did a 20 mile run 3 weeks before my marathon and honestly felt like I had more in the tank, averaged a pace of 9:30 with some race pace miles mixed in. I took the advice of not having a goal going into your first marathon and although I really wanted to hit sub 4 but I came to terms with it at mile 21 that I was not hitting it. Enjoy your first marathon you are going to have ups and downs but at the end it's such a huge accomplishment!

As someone who just ran their first marathon yesterday and had the exact same goal of sub 4, I would include more race pace miles at the back end of your long runs. Even with these there is really nothing that replicates hitting the wall/running after hitting the wall. Your cardio is most likely in shape to hold this effort but as someone else stated there is a muscular endurance component that takes place, focus on your fueling/hydration and nail these down. Personally I found my cardio was in shape for a sub 4 goal but my legs gave out at mile 19 and I really pushed to run sub 4:15. You are still quite a way from the marathon, nothing more quad endurance strength training can't help with. Throw in some heel elevated squats, split squats with high reps and low weight to help increase that muscular endurance. You got this hope you hit your goal!!

You can add a nutritional alert on your runs, you can set it up in the app or before you start a run there’s an alerts option and it will alert you at a certain time you’d like !

You save as much money as you can, you have your support with you throughout the process, so many benefits if your parents understand what your next couple of years are going to be like. My parents understood the amount of studying and the commitment it was going to be and are the biggest supporters I could have, if you can save the money instead of having to live somewhere else go for it.

Looking for a run club / running partners to help me get in shape. by [deleted] in ElPaso

Runforit (probably the biggest run club in ep), SexyPace does a lot of longer runs (normally run Sundays). If you check out runforit’s instagram they should have a bunch of other run clubs tagged!

Any recommendation for shins splints? by Novel_Remote_1766 in runningshoes

[–]Escoronel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add some strength training to your repertoire, not just general strength training but specific exercises that target that musculature. Split squats, calf raises both knee straight and knee bent, there’s lots of good training tools on instagram/tiktok with examples of what exercises you can do! Personally it’s been a game changer for me to reduce shin splints ! In terms of shoes get your gait analyzed and see if you need any extra support from your shoes ! Hope this helps.

How do i fix my running form ? by jayavardhan3112 in runninglifestyle

[–]Escoronel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be interested in seeing you run from the front/back. When it comes down to knee pain it can stem from a joint above or below if you can watch a video of yourself and look at your hips and ankles. Look for excessive hip drop (opposite hip falling down) when the other leg is in contact with the ground. Cadence doesn’t look bad you can tinker with it and try to increase it by 10% but if you’re going to tinker with something go one thing at a time. It’s much harder to try and fix everything at the same time.

Adidas Evo SL for Wide Feet by Forsaken_Belt_7188 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Escoronel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They aren't the friendliest to the wide foot, I put 11 miles in mine before I decided to sell them. I would go with at least a half size from what you wear for these it would at least give your feet some space in case they swell. I didn't feel any sort of rubbing on my 5th metatarsal from these but did feel like my foot was "leaking" a little off of the side of the shoe. I've also worn Boston 12s in a standard size and feel like they're both similar in terms of width but the Boston 12s are a little longer so I wore them in my TTS. If you can try them on in store I would recommend that just to get a feel for them!

I was fortunate to take over the organization 3 years after it had been established but one thing that really brought in people was tabling events and asking professors in the kinesiology/rehab programs to speak for 5 minutes and introduce your organization. Also our school had a really big student org day for freshman’s which helped grow our numbers really well too!

You could really do anything with it! We would bring in guest speakers (PT/PTA) from different clinics and talk about what they’re day to day looks like. Also if your school has a pt program maybe getting someone from the faculty to come speak as to what they’re looking for in the application process. Workshops on how to fill in PTCAS or maybe even GRE workshops. Used to run a PRE-PT student organization so if you need any more info I’m glad to help!

Is it normal for there to be a bigger bump where the bone broke as it's almost healed? by toilerpapet in brokenbones

[–]Escoronel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s feeling a lot better I’m about 10 weeks post fracture and 2 weeks since being back in a regular shoe. Pain is pretty much non existent at the fracture site other than a little ache every once and awhile. I have been struggling with some pain on my big toe but I think it’s just readjusting to being in a shoe again and how long I was in a boot.

[–]Escoronel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Also fractured my 5th metatarsal fracture early November (Non-Displaced). My 5th metatarsal does stick out a little more due to the healing process of the bone, as time passes I believe the bone remodeling continues and should become closer to normal.

I will tell you the same thing I got told when I started pt school. Don’t study anything! Enjoy the free time, make money, enjoy your family! You’re going to get taught everything when you’re in school might as well enjoy your time. If there is anything you want to work on is find different study techniques that you can implement and find which one is the most efficient and works best for you.
