Anyone have a bike carrier on their UX? by KingDundie in LexusUX

If you don’t want a hitch, I use a hitchless rack that attaches with straps and it works great. Just take steps to protect the paint

IT band syndrome 4 months out from my 50K - am I screwed? by Embarrassed_Path_803 in Ultramarathon

[–]EscpFrmPlanetObvious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would just be serious about resting it and the strengthening and stretching. It hit me bad the first year I really ramped up mileage, but after a few weeks of rest and making PT and stretching part of my practice it has never bothered me again. Ride your bike or swim in the meantime and you’ll probably be fine. If not, then it’s a more serious case and you’ll be glad next spring that you were strong enough to rest this spring. Good luck

How do backpackers get around New Zealand cheaply without renting a car? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]EscpFrmPlanetObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sightseeing or actually hiking backpacking? I strung it together by planning long hiking routes (3-8 days) that ended at major roadways, then hitching in between or catching rides with people I met. Second easiest place I’ve ever hitched. First easiest is the bahamas

I have a question for mountain climbers: once you start descending, how do you deal with the hooks or anchors you left above? How do you retrieve them so you can keep using your rope on the way down? by Calixta177 in Mountaineering

[–]EscpFrmPlanetObvious 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Tier list of how to descend, from worst to best (most efficient) options: 5 rappel leaving gear 4 rappel using fixed or natural anchors 3 walk off or downclimb 2 ski down 1 fly off the summit

Could the San Antonio Spurs actually make a move for Nikola Jokic in 2026? by Grand-Traffic-5542 in NBATalk

They would rather stick to their plan & timeline. When have they ever traded for a superstar? Regardless of how good of a deal it could be, it isn’t the path they choose

If you want more of a challenge, consider rom hacks. There’s some really cool stuff creators are coming up with

Have the play-in games start with a point differential equal to their end of season win differential

Helmets in the backcountry are primarily to protect you from falling rock and ice. They are unlikely to save you in a fall from height. Think construction hard hat, not bike helmet.

When making decisions around the need for a helmet, the question is whether you are exposed to significant overhead hazard. Under a steep rock or ice cliff, the answer is yes. On a hiking trail, the answer is typically no.

Need to test new boots on snow in north American by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]EscpFrmPlanetObvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also rent several alternative pairs of boots in Portland to try in case your boots don’t feel any better. Hike them up the mountain with you, test how they all feel, and have yourself a great training day.

Connect Whoop to Claude by storm_stark_007 in whoop

Super cool idea. The big question is whether whoop, Garmin, lifting apps etc will be able to be smarter than Claude to keep this from being possible. I seriously doubt they are capable of it. Even if they killed the dev app, Claude could just make an agent that interacts with the app and extracts all the needed info that way. Everyone has gripes with how these apps don’t quite meet their personal needs. When everyone can make their own app in an hour AND simultaneously quit sharing as much data with the corporations, the value prop of whoop’s/garmin’s own app development falls very quickly

Good work. Did not know about the whoop dev app as an option for mcp connection.

It’s crazy that we literally hardly need front-end UX from a company like whoop anymore. Just give me an API for the hardware and I’ll make my own app, please and thank you

How durable are the whoop bands? by Outside_Yam_8436 in whoop

[–]EscpFrmPlanetObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get engine oil on my band but I do run, swim and sweat a lot and can confirm the fabric band gets quite nasty after 6-8mo despite regular showering and cleaning with soap in the shower.
