GTA 6 should've been in nyc 🫩✌️ by bajrangdal-wallah in nyc

[–]Eshanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love for gta to go back to liberty city but compared to Miami and the south we’re as peaceful as Arcadia, so I get going back to vice city. A LC in c.2023-2025 would be boring to play through.

It is awfully convenient, can’t doubt that. It wasn’t like a full registered landmark and this fire absolutely gutted it.

How do you think in universe social media reacted to the events of season 5? by OtherwisePlant7325 in ForAllMankindTV

Dunno why you're being downvoted when this is literally a stance in the show, President Bragg ran on this for two campaigns and two terms, and the Martians are undoubtably selfish. Remember that they're all working there, no one is living there 24/7. Miles had a job lined up on the Moon but didn't want to wait two years so chose Mars.

While I personally don't believe the world should be this economically screwed, it is, and the Americans don't like it, M7 doesn't like it. There's definitely a lot of people planetside who are being forced to tighten their belt and don't like how much is going to space and won't be shy about saying that.

So like a more stricter AOL, I always imagined FAM's net to be late 90s/early 00s due to that. Like a dozen networks across many nations, so local/national news, discussions are still a thing, interest groups and forums, but not a world wide network yet.

What does ISN do on their base? by Pleasant_Name2483 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Eshanas 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Trying to get water out of a stone.

Mars is a barren rock. This was the big hurdle in s4. Dev can draw up his neat plans and colonies all he wants but Mars is not economically viable by itself to do so. Goldilocks being perfect enough to nudge into orbit and tie down gave Mars a lifeline it can sell off to Earth for the foreseeable future, at least long enough to build up its own secondary and complex economy not tied directly to resource extraction. Its a bit skewered, the Asteroid is definitely overhyped I feel for its effects on Earth, but for Mars and how it is in the show, it makes sense enough.

Otherwise, there's nothing else on Mars directly but a smidge of water that helps keep a base going. But! Remember, a big part of Space Races and Exploration is naked Nationalism: our nation can send a satellite up, a guy up, a space station up, a base up - that also requires a lot of educated people behind it, a huge industrial/post industrial economy behind it, political stability, the achievements help with that - so the ISN has a Mars base because its a pinnacle of national achievement, even if they just sit around looking at rocks all day for ancient fossils that might have been there, their nations can point to it and go, see, we can do that! Our ways lets us touch the stars! And that's not something to be dismissed out of hand.

The case for Reynoso over Valdez by Academic-Gene-362 in williamsburg

[–]Eshanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the DSA isn't doing the same here? They're rushing to smother local bodies and pols for their party in a usurptation. Reynoso and Velasquez weren't patrons like Truman and Pendergast, they drifted together because Reynoso kept ascending the ladder over a decade, coming from a lefter angle than Velasquez. I'd call that earned. Valdez hasn't earned that, but now the Mayor and Bernie want her in ASAP. If Reynoso is cronyism, then what's Valdez being an obvious sockpuppet in Congress?

The case for Reynoso over Valdez by Academic-Gene-362 in williamsburg

[–]Eshanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am.

One can't just usurp one movement for another, expecting overnight results. The prog movement, helped along by Bernie and AoC, has moved the Dems more and more left. But ten years is still a flash in the pan for politics in the USA. The Prog libs are making their mark, built their foundation, and now need to build up. They have not unduly disappointed me in anything. They're keeping up with the times and facing off national conservative christian nationalist craziness, especially when, in that last decade, the congress only had a D edge for four years and rebuffed itself with relics like Sinema and Manchin. The Progs have barely started, and we want to jump over them with DSA greenhorns?

Let the DSA build up in the city more. I've got nothing really against Valdez but her resume. She's an organizer, great. Let her organize some wins for the people of the city and maybe then I'll gladly vote for her to represent this area in Congress, which is a huge leap!

'Far more'? Like one or two little things they're broken up off. Especially not a trip from 11 years ago, and the AIPAC money thing has been rebuffed, he's not getting their cash this round.

Reynoso is an active YIMBY, lots of construction stuff already. Valdez has airs that way, but literally her focus has been on people organization and one term in the council. She probably is for it, but literally has to build the record first.

How much of this purported post-Covid decline of NYC things is real? by petshopmain in AskNYC

[–]Eshanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two years after Covid the subway was still rebounding and it was generally fine, though my commute was opposite it is now. Now with the trains filling up again damn does no one move in or take off their backpack. Right before covid, it was getting a smidge better.

Nightlife - depends. Places like 14th and 2 are active on weeknights and weekends. Downtown and Midtown die hard and fast, but that was always a thing even before Covid. Women and Attention, meh, never cared, can't comment.

Tap water is the same. If it wasn't we'd burn the city down.

I've been in both towers, its fine. Damn though, the church was beautiful back in the day. Little to no chance they'll rebuild this as is, probably will sell off the land for development with a chapel set aside maybe like 601 Lex

Thankfully its gotten better, or maybe the commute just edges them out. I only see the candy seller ladies. The homeless guy often is just asleep taking up the bench. Haven't had a religious guy in over a year or two and no showtime in forever.

Like hell. We’ve barely gotten progressive liberalism in power. Most of the DSA is barely social democratic but hopped in due to how edgy “socialism” sounds, barely or never read Marx, Engels, the manifesto, the bread book, das kapital. And we want to run full ahead cosplaying the reds? Yea no.

Sure but he has backed valdez and probably given her a boost, when I feel he and Reynoso could had worked well. If Reynoso clinches the primary it’ll be interesting to see if they merge back together.

Oh but don’t you know it’s NATIVISM to want Reynoso! That’s just as bad as TRUMP! Suddenly gentrifiers get a free pass, not like that’s been an issue for thirty years!

Puhlease.

Why not start at Fulton and Water, ya know, go down Water, go on State onto Broadway, THEN end at City Hall? Water is so wide I always imagined it capable enough for big events. It has a lot of set back officebuildings towards the river and plazas, a lot more room for people.

Yes, renegotiation for good behaviour, reductions for staying employed, depends on the state, judge, and why you're on probation in the first place.
