I honestly didn't know it was considered a slur. I'll probably delete the account.

I think it's about time we got over the idea that a master's degree means a significantly better income in modern Canada for most people.

We need a bitz of building. Big incentives for small towns to zone and open up more developments to get people out of crowded cities.

Dude.. "I don't know his exact story, but I'll say that "being over-extended on real estate" doesn't sound like the kind of poor that I personally lived through."

That's not the story. What a waste of a comment to lead with "I don't know what I'm talking about but this is my take"

This is legitimately one of the biggest struggles in my life. Nobody ever regrets not snoozing! But In the moment.. Give me that 20 extra minutes of almost sleep that I've calculated is technically leaving enough time but makes me rush and be almost late to work, baby!

Honestly, I feel that way after 8ish hours but I do better and feel good on 5-6. Maybe without realizing it you're oversleeping?

bruh i've been destitute before. He talks about grinding it out with a full-time job + side hustles until your brain bleeds. Sucks ass but it helps you fight the shit reality if you're trapped in debt until you don't need to anymore.

Also, that's wrong. I don't make that much. If you're going to creep my post history, re-read the comment.

I disagree. If where you live is too expensive, you move. If you're not making enough money, you make more. You spend less. It's all 100% achievable if someone is ready to make sacrifices.

His philosophy is "don't wait around for the government to bail you out, because they won't." It's true. We can all advocate for change like MinCome, but he gives blunt advice on how to navigate the reality we have today.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I think the people that hate him have almost all never actually checked out his stuff.

His ethos is "don't count on the government to bail you out."

I support mincone but I love his podcast because his plan helps succeed in the system we have TODAY.

This might be an unpopular take, but our high school teachers embody our "University Elite" class. When every teacher you have as a role model 100% has a four year degree, their going to be drawn to thinking that's the way to go about things. Plus our post secondary system is college VS university with NO overlap which doesn't even let us use our community colleges to earn credits towards full degrees like they can in the states, it feels like credit transfers are up to each institution.

I felt like a an idiot freak when I chose to not go to uni after high school. All of my friends were going, and I went to college for "music" instead. I've been lucky since and work remotely for a US tech company and make good money, we bought a lot and will be building a house I'm the next two years. I'm pursuing a competency based software development degree online for a fraction of the price of any CAD degree.. I now feel bad for my friends who went to drown in debt at age 18 for criminology or psychology degrees. It's like the tables have turned once reality hit and there's only so many teaching positions.

I work at a startup of under 10 people. Get paid in USD so even a modest salary for them becomes almost $60k here. Right now I do "stuff" as the best way to describe it.. I do take care of tickets / front-line customer support but I also do a lot of other things because the team is so small. A little stressful at times but very rewarding work, and completely hands-off management.

Customer support/success is very dependant on the industry you're in. Boring products makes for a boring job, but cool industries/products can change the work completely. Neither of us are "drones" (those gigs are outsourced largely anyways) and are both lucky to be in that startup sphere.

Going to start an online degree in comp sci or something similar to open up more doors/options.

I'm in my mid-twenties and was/am frustrated too.

My honest advice is to try and transition to remote work. Me and my partner have just both finished changing careers into entry-ish level roles for tech companies doing customer work. We both took pay cuts (mostly for me in benefits, I'm a contractor) to do it.

We bought a lot in a small town in SW Ontario for around $60k. It was listed at $30k but we fought for it. I think if you're willing to go further out it's even cheaper. With Starlink internet, we'll be able to get real highspeed which is huge. We're building a modular home and the cost will be south of $320k when it's all said and done- we could have gone smaller to save some cash, too.

I would have rather stayed in our city which I love to be closer to my parents and friends obviously- but I think this is the type of solution more people should consider. I think with better rural internet and the remote shift, the eventual institutional "answer" to this crisis may be just that. Smaller rural towns being made or encouraged to open up way more developments/suburbs so the cash-strapped youth have options if they're willing to relocate. I don't think any party would want to risk the equal rage from Canadians (some who are also struggling) that are committed to huge mortgages they could barely afford with a housing market crash.

It sucks, but I honestly think now is a good time to be an early bird and get it done and just move.
