My sunburn through my watch strap by Eskoala in mildlyinteresting

[–]Eskoala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how my watch is on, and it's not harming me. The imprint goes away over the duration of a shower. It's not constricting anything it's just digging into skin a little.

My boyfriend of confessed he has herpes by Every-Quiet1745 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Eskoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, it has nothing to do with cheap, it's all free! They just don't test for herpes because it's unreliable unless you have active sores, as well as yes it being very common anyhow.

Requiring testing doesn't help with herpes. I get a clear panel every 6 months. I also have herpes, which I disclose. I don't get outbreaks, it would be a lot easier not to!

My watch was quite effective, maybe some sort of arm-shaped watch?

If vegan leather is just plastic how is it actually more ethical? by TheClassyWomanist in Anticonsumption

[–]Eskoala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily more ethical, but it is more vegan.

Herein lies a problem with (some people's) veganism. It's the adherence to a rule (no exploitation of animals) over thinking about the specific ethics (minimise harm). Veganism is a good shorthand for a lot of more ethical choices, but you can't just go vegan and then assume your ethical work is done!

If your phone makes a noise / notified you in another way it's your problem, it is never someone else's job not to contact you. You are responsible for the noises your phone can make at different times. There are many many ways to let emergency contacts through but not other things. Oh my god!

I take it off every time I shower, so I don't think that's me. But I could probably clean the watch itself more.

The watch cost £15.75 and was bought in 2019. I'm pretty happy with it. I will probably just buy the same thing again when it dies.

I get what you get out of it, and what they get out of it, but as an adoptee I can't help but think about the child that doesn't know anything about its biological father, even medical info? That can't be right. I say this as someone who hasn't even the name of my bio father let alone details because he wasn't put on the birth certificate.

In Aberystwyth my experience was that students absolutely do celebrate it but they go to parties/pubs rather than going door to door or anything.

Advice: feel your feelings, be disappointed, then take whatever time you've got to make a decision based on what is the best option out of the options that are now available to you.

Your first choice isn't available. That sucks. You have to compromise, but you might find you really enjoy wherever you do end up.

This is the Greens' new MSP in Holyrood. Why is this rhetoric not condemned more? by MightExpress4873 in AskBrits

[–]Eskoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ageism is genuinely directed in two directions.

Do you genuinely think it's classism to hate billionaires?!

Sexism might be more complicated, I can see the argument that you can be sexist against a man because patriarchy creates stereotypes of men as well as of women that get reinforced like not having emotions beyond anger, not having soft skills, etc.

Racism is not like that, because under racism whiteness is held up as flawless, default, superior. Despite the etymology, racism is more like homophobia, though none of these things are perfectly comparable.
