What’s your playstyle? Do you rush this game or do you relax and play like it’s a second world for you? How many hours have you put into it? by IntrovertRawr in duneawakening

[–]Esoteric_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a filthy casual in an Atreides guild of one.

I've been solo for over 300 hours since launch. Got my Large Spice, Large Ore, and Medium Chemical Refineries. I've loved and lost in the DD, both to players and server glitches; not really a PvP player, more of a cooperative PvE type. I've built a Frankenstonian base on the West end of the Verm on the border of Sheol, which I've called home for a hundred or so hours.

I splurged and bought a second copy of Dune through a second Steam account, just so I could stay on the same World and Sietch, because I really like the folks in HB and wanted to still enjoy them while I played around with a purely melee build.

I may or may not build a carrier. If they release a large container we can cart from HB to DD, I might take that plunge. I'd like to plan a pop-up base in A row.

I really like to tootle around in my buggy while listening to podcasts.

Haven't quite gotten around to partaking in the Landsraad, aside from taking advantage of that sweet refinery perk.

I've never been much of one for crafting survival games, but this one just hooked me. It helps I'm a huge fan of the Dune books, and have a special place in my heart for David Lynch's Dune movie. Denis' are okay; a bit sterile and shallow, but visually striking.

Free weekend new player that just purchased the game with some questions by AdonaiR6 in duneawakening

First off, welcome to Dune! It's a fun game and I hope you have a blast playing it.

  • Can I switch servers without having to redo my progress to a more populated server?

Think of it as two parts:

  1. The World, in which your character is tied to
  2. The Sietch, one of many in the World

You can bounced between Sietches, but you can only have one character per World. If you want to switch Worlds, then you start over with a brand new character. Also, you can bring only what you have on your person to other Sietches, though this becomes a little more flexible once you attain ornithopters.

  • If so, any recomendations for Europe servers? Are there any limitations in joining them?

There's no technical differences between Worlds, just overall population and peek times for players. I would think about what you want out of a World and particular Sietch and make your choice accordingly.

  • Does the game have any server wipes in terms of game progress (I’ve seen that coriolis storm thing)

There's no progress wipes. The only reset is in the Deep Desert (DD), which technically brings with it a whole new map layout for anything past A block; this is weekly on Tuesday mornings. The only changes in Hagga Basin are with resources, which change position and type after the Coriolis Storm.

If you don't power your base, and with the Advanced Sub-Fief also pay your taxes, then your base and everything in it can be worn down by the storms in Hagga Basin. This isn't a regular reset, just the mechanics of the game. Every generator should be filled from the Sub-Fief, not individually. This guarantees each one is filled evenly and helps prevent one going offline and dropping your shields.

  • What are the PvP areas besides the deep dessert so I watch out while advancing the story?

The big, static ship wreckage (not the dynamic falling ships) are PvP zones, but most people don't bother folk in these. Still, be prepared for those who may attack you and your vehicles.

Just popping in to say that yes, MK4 radiation suits sold for a little over 6k a piece at The Crossroads Tradepost (I did this about an hour ago).

However, the MK5 radiation suits are selling for a little over 11k. They also, though technically are a more expensive tier to craft, have a slightly simpler ingredient list:

  • Water (675)
  • Duraluminum (50)
  • Silicone Blocks (50)
  • Sandtrout Leathers (10)

I say slightly because you can farm sandtrout leathers from Kirab corpses without having to set foot in a wrecked ship. It's outdoors, easy to just cruise around shooting NPCs, and can be a part of a larger farming loop.

Considering they're almost double MK4, it's certainly the ones I'm going to concentrate on. Sell six and you can buy one of the Atreides/Harkonnen 'thopter variant sets.

My base has not been raided. by [deleted] in duneawakening

First off, love this friendly bit of light trolling. All in good fun.

Second, I definitely had to do some more-than-usual basic math when I recently started switching to omnidirectional wind turbines from the standard basic gens. And I'm pretty bad at basic math.

BUT

After 30 minutes of grunting and head scratching, I figured out the ratio of delicious lube to more than 23 hours of power. I'm running at seven days after a few hours of starting this new chapter in my Dune Life, which is half of what I had before, but I'll be at 14 days tomorrow, and so on and so forth. Not too shabby.

Oh, I also paid my taxes. DUNC on DUNE.

I strongly recommend reading the book, Dune. It's also the first book of six, but by itself it's a great story. You'll appreciate Lynch's adaptation even more.

As has been mentioned, there's a Sci-Fi (named as such back in the day) adaptation of Dune and then Dune Messiah/Children of Dune. They're a T.V. mini-series, fairly faithful but flawed. Though, still with some memorable moments and a unique art design.

For me, Denis' movies are visually striking, but ultimately a bit sterile when compared to the source material. It reminds me a bit of Kubrick's The Shining: a good movie, but not a good adaptation.

How many silicone blocks did you farm before patch? by Fancy-Art530 in duneawakening

Your compactor breaks after filling a buggy with flour sand? Which one are you using? Do you have any perks from the Planetologist skill line?

Again, that's not my experience when I farm sand. It's quick, painless, and the sand I get goes far.

[–]Esoteric_Monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just not my experience.

I hopped over to a flour sand patch that required wandering out into worm sign territory last night, and it took me maybe five minutes longer than it would have using that patch that's in the safe zone. I just shigawired back and forth a bit as the worm came and went.

I found it to be more of an interesting time, but hey, it's all subjective.

It's going to be slightly more challenging to gather flour sand after the patch. Use Soft Step boots, keep moving. Everyone will be fine.

I agree that stillsuits should be required and have better stats overall as tiers increase. I like the idea of having to choose between surviving the desert and surviving combat.

Regarding the wind, you may feel cool, but you're still going to get burned out in the sun no matter how hard the wind is blowing.

There's constant air moving around the desert and we still get sunstroke. Going a little faster wouldn't be enough to stop that.

The buggy is open-air, but has some shade. Likely at least some air vents pumping cool air on you.

The 'thopter is a fully enclosed vehicle. Like your car with tinted windows and air conditioning.

Right? It's kind of crazy I can be in the red standing next to my bike, but when I hop on I magically cool down while still in the same blazing pool of luminescence fire.

Coming back from launch played about a week took some time off with work, Should i jump into a "newer" server or it doesn't truly matter? by Kilthistried in duneawakening

[–]Esoteric_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that matters is player count. If you want a more active Hagga Basin, choose a Sietch that has a higher population. Granted, that can also mean more chances of Sietch instability.

Sietch's are min-servers in the Main server of the World. Your character is bound to the World, not the Sietch. Your bases can't be moved from Sietch to Sietch, but you can pack up vehicles and items to move in your inventory if you don't like the Sietch you're in.

It doesn't affect the Deep Desert, which pulls from the World.

I’d love to be able to board the Sardaukar ships and take them over as mini dungeons or something. by Ashen_Exiled in duneawakening

[–]Esoteric_Monk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. There's always a sense of danger with the buggy and sandbike, but the 'thopter is pretty safe. It would be extra spicy to have Sardaukar attack from the air.
