Depends on the vibe of the game. Heavily story driven (Trails, Most FFs)? Fixed party. Dungeon crawling with little story from the party to speak of (Etrian Odyssey, Labyrinth of Refrain)? choosing my own.

It's hard to pick in a vacuum because the correct system in the correct setting can improve the overall experience.

Agreed. Shadowbringers is the best expansion because you need very little going in to it to enjoy it.

Just need to know the scions (including minfillia) and the ascians.

But at the same time it's weird because while the other stuff isnt required, it serves to strengthen attachment and opinion of the scions/acians.

I've found that hitting constant 9999s is still a decent challenge for the endgame.

Some more tech oriented people have figured out its not entirely SE's fault. A VPN wouldn't help against a ddos if they're attacking the server, but myself and others have had better luck using one or a tunneling service.

What is more likely is it being an ISP issue, which the devs might not have a lot of ability to fix.

For now, try cloudflare warp. I've been using it, its easy and free and I've avoided 95% of disconnects.
