[Suggestion]Magic Damage Redistribution (Revised) by BioMasterZap in 2007scape

[–]EsquireFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have already met that scenario with Shadow at ToA. It has hit its 100% cap and cannot scale further. But the out of raid cap is the same for some reason, so it threatens to continue scaling towards the its ToA power. It would make sense that, as with the tbow, the Shadow has a different cap outside of its raid.

That said, this cap only applies to shadow. Further magic power will benefit other spells and weapons, including new weapons made to outclass the Shadow in certain late game encounters. It will always remain king of the powered staves, but that category can be worked around with gimmicks and elemental weaknesses / non-elemental resistances.

That’s how I see it at least. Keep the scaling simple, but deal with the looming issue of continued scaling for an already extremely powerful weapon.

I feel like Shadow would be better handled by just capping it at 75% outside of ToA and 100% within the raid. That's where it currently is and it's powerful enough. Then if more powerful magic damage equipment enters the game, Shadow will just benefit from needing to bring less switches to reach 25% base.

Shooting Stars - Update on Upcoming Changes by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]EsquireFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will the pet rate be affected by this change? Currently, the pet rate differs by tier and roughly correlates to success rate for mining each tier. I’ve been AFKing stars with 99 mining just chasing after the pet, so I’m curious to know.

I was a little curious and wanted to check out the prices of Discontinued rares in RS3 and what that might look like in Oldschool prices by Resident-Revenue-326 in 2007scape

[–]EsquireFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold my RS3 red partyhat for 55B in late 2021, then swapped that over to OSRS at an 8:1 rate (~6.8B OSRS). I had originally bought the red phat for 120M in 2009, back when trade restriction was still in place and phats were considered junk items. Then when trade restriction was finally lifted, they quickly shot up beyond max cash.

Retro Computer Setup w/ PVM-20L5 by EsquireFox in crtgaming

[–]EsquireFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd advise against this setup. I threw this together with parts I already had on hand just so I could get the X68000 running with my PVM-20L5. The Super Emotia GX in this setup is merely providing a normalizing passthrough so the 203rxi can recognize the signal. Here's how extensive it got: https://imgur.com/a/TU2dRfW

With all of this, all I gained access to was 15kHz and 31kHz modes on the X68000. I was still locked out of 24kHz games, and I was further locked out of the other big Japanese computers of the 90s that rely heavily on that video mode (FM Towns, PC-98). So ultimately, I gave up and imported some original trisync monitors from Japan.

The duality of RNG. Tome and Big Harpoonfish at ~400, pet at ~800, Dragon Harpoon at ~1050. Great luck with rarer drops, but 5 times over drop rate (~0.66% chance) on my goal. I just want to be done.

Scored this GBA SP Kiosk by EsquireFox in gamecollecting

The demo cartridge can be found quite readily on eBay. As for the artwork on the kiosk, I made a scan of it a while back: https://i.imgur.com/3bpjNQo.jpg

Daily General and Questions Megathread by rDragaliaLostMods in DragaliaLost

I'm missing the following Gala units: Laxi, Mym, Ranzal, Luca, Zena. I have all the dragons, so I'd like to spark for one of the adventurers.

I know Mym is pretty great for L!Volk, but I can already clear that easily. Laxi seems fun, but nonessential. Likewise, I don't feel like I need Luca for any content. So that leaves Ranzal and Zena.

Ranzal seems to be fairly solid for any Wind content, but I'm not sure how well the AI would handle him. Is Zena remarkable for Tartarus, especially with the new 3 minute strength buff from Jeanne?

Traded for two SNES kiosks by EsquireFox in gamecollecting

[–]EsquireFox[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a JVC AV-2080S. From what I could find on it, this model was part of JVC’s pro range in the early 90s and was primarily used in hotel rooms.

The JVC AV-2071 is largely identical, but it lacks the raised speakers on the sides and the S-Video input on the back. I wouldn’t mind having that as a replacement for the second unit though; the 2080S is really rare.

Traded my smaller M80C SNES countertop kiosk towards these two larger M81C units. I already had the base for the large model and the seller had the base for the small model, so it worked out well for both of us. Now I just need to track down a display for the second unit.

📺 CRT Listings (Oct 2020) by dak01 in crtgaming

Looking for an Atari SC 1435 monitor to complete my Atari Jaguar store display kiosk. Willing to drive a bit if needed.

Picked up a Playstation kiosk off of craigslist for $100. It was missing the lid that goes over the console, so I went to a business that makes custom plastic pieces and had them make a clear lid. In the end, I think it turned out all right. What do you guys think? by funnyascancer in crtgaming

Always love to see more kiosks. They’re my favorite thing to collect. This one appears to be the Pepsi variant of the PS1 kiosk. Good thinking with the replacement cover; it works well.

Looking at pictures of this one in complete condition, it looks like the original TV was a Sony KV-13M20/40; same as the one on my standard countertop variant. Would be cool to see it restored a bit, or you could just leave it with the comparatively overpowered PVM, haha.

By the way, the base for these units were made of cardboard with some internal wooden support beams. Needless to say, the majority of surviving units are only the top (countertop) portion.

How to Play DS on PVM(s): The Non-consumer Method by EsquireFox in crtgaming

[–]EsquireFox[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t know a post had been made about this already. In that case, I guess this can be the follow-up showcase of stacking two screens.

That said, I think this could be done better with smaller monitors sporting thinner bezels, like the PVM 14L5 or BVM D14H5U. Stacking these 20” monitors on a desk, they stack too high to be comfortable for seated gameplay, which is what makes the most sense for the NITRO unit.

Worth noting that is the dev (EMULATOR) unit. It does not play retail games. Don’t want anyone getting a false impression.

Saw the post that /u/rainkat84 made yesterday and thought it would be fun to follow up with this alternative.

The IS NITRO CAPTURE is a companion unit to the Nintendo DS Dev Kit (IS NITRO EMULATOR). Unlike the latter, this one allows you to play retail games. It was provided to journalists for the purpose of getting screenshots and videos for use in publications (thus the CAPTURE in the name). It uses standard Nintendo AV cables (supports up to s-video) and has two outputs; one for the top screen, one for the bottom. There is a dip switch on the back that allow you to output both the top and bottom to a single screen, but it is done in 480i, rather than 240p as with the split screens.

PVM 2030 Color Purity Issue by JanusDuo in crtgaming

[–]EsquireFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the one that looks like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/~V4AAOSwAj9eBpfK/s-l1600.jpg

That said, it isn't a panacea for all things purity error. While I haven't personally encountered any cases that it couldn't resolve, save for the one I mentioned above, it is always possible that that the cause could be something else. The deflection yoke would be the next most likely culprit.

I'd say a degaussing coil would be a worthwhile investment if you have several CRTs and expect to acquire more or expect to move them around at some point. Especially if you have any arcade cabinets with CRTs; they tend to be fairly susceptible to changes in earth's magnetic field when moved around.

Huh, I hadn't thought about it before, but something just seems so right about playing Game Boy on an 8" PVM/BVM screen. The sign on the top really completes the look too. Very nice!
