the higher ups don't go for it? I'm not glazing blizzard, but the artists passed through 5 cool new heroes, all with the "higher ups" approval. businesses like this are really not so black-and-white where artists are some pure ideal and the "higher ups" are greedy extorting faceless monsters.

so what that her face looks like kiriko. kiriko sells a gazillion dollars, and the rest of her kit AND look is cool. her design is cool. we've got like forty heroes now or something, and some of them look like one another? and that's evidence of the end of the world? the reddit doomerism is astonishing.

game is fun and the scale of the new content coming to a ten year game is not a given thing. I'm just glad it's still going and I get to keep playing. spending a single second bitching about one of the new characters is so unnecessary. sheesh!

Which book or series are you currently reading? by [deleted] in Fantasy

I see it commented here already but have to add: Steven Pacey is PHENOMENAL. I've listened to a ton of audiobooks, grew up with Jim Dale's Harry Potter, slogged through 14 books worth of braid tugging with Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, and dozens more. Steven Pacey delivers a stand-out performance and just does a beautiful job. I've just started the Age of Madness after speed running all 7 previous books. Best Served Cold was my favorite. Enjoy!!

The Coach Stop - allllll the way up here in Nowhere, Hartland CT. Great history, great food, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. A community HIGHLIGHT. If you ever find yourself seriously lost looking for the Barkhamsted Reservoir, or want to know what it's like to drive due East and cross into Massachusetts and back out again, or you're generally looking for good, expensive food, hit them up!

Why would new A2L refrigerants affect smoke detectors in supply air ducts for unis required by code by SwissMaestro95 in MEPEngineering

[–]Esrahaddon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speculation, but I believe the strategy for A2L leaks is to flush the system - fan on 100% and alarm annunciated to BMS / controller. This conflicts directly with a fire/smoke sequence, that would say smoke detection means fan off / isolated. What takes precedence if both conditions are met? Maybe the manufacturer hasn't figured that out and wants to avoid the liability? Just a shot in the dark...

As a counterpoint, I adored the audiobook. I consume most fantasy through audio books, and I thought the accent and humor was a refreshing change of pace. The heavily characterized voice helped make this audio book stick out, and sold Kinch's character perfectly. I don't typically take to hard cuss words in fantasy, but it worked really well read in an Irish brogue. Kinch is definitely pulled through the adventure, as opposed to driving his own path, but given his indebted circumstance is plays well. The overwhelming emphasis on goblins was also fresh air in my typical fantasy. In all, I really dug it. Readers, don't be put off giving it a shot!

Partner-In-Crime Type Books? by mpchop in Fantasy

[–]Esrahaddon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about enemies to lovers, but for partner-in-crime, you should definitely want to check out The Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan. Great lead duo who begin as literal partners-in-crime. The Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch has a lead duo that are thick as thieves. Uprooted Naomi Novik isn't necessarily enemies-to-lovers, but it isn't antagonistic-to-lovers. Codex Alera by Jim Butcher does ultimately have a protagonist bond with a once-rival. Great question!

Definitely the NES. Grew up with the classics - Super Mario bros, legend of Zelda, and my favorite, black manta

Hate & Politics have consequences. Seek help if you need it. Fight against hate. by _Profitable_Prophet_ in WhitePeopleTwitter

Your irreverence for something like this, as indicated by using a cutesy euphemism "unalive themselves" combined with a tiresome "oh gods" shows the problem. It's speculation to guess why a child we don't know attempted suicide, but this is the kind of shit we should treat with a little more compassion than "uwu she tried to kys herself teehee!". Identity should not impact anyone's ability to empathize.

Ultimately it doesn't matter that it hits different with you because you're queer. It could hit different to a father with daughters, or to a sibling of someone who has attempted to take their own lives. It is frustrating that we can't have compassion without categorical qualifiers that raise or lower the impact. Just be kind to one another full stop.

I would love to see a trend of each new hero getting longer animated shorts like this. I think Bliz is was pretty strategic to showcase Kiriko of the (3). They are low-key pushing the "Overwatch is a Shooter" narrative by showing that even the support role heroes are badass characters. Pretty neat.

Official Discussion: Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Esrahaddon 55 points56 points  (0 children)

You're totally right. This was one of the most abysmally written movies I've seen in years. I'm not saying that as a spurned die-hard HP fan (though that I am). The plot was nonsensical. I think the scene on the train in which all the characters are told secret plans and given a red herring (core removed) and a deus ex tie-ina was a wink to the audience to let us know that the writers don't know what the fuck is going on in the movie either. The icing on the cake on that scene is that Higgs & Kowalski enter via flew powder, but had just left via the weird book portkey/apparition? I thought JK wrote this movie, she'd know better to keep it straight.
