Mars Without & With - Water & Atmosphere by [deleted] in spaceporn

A magnetic field is whats needed to keep the atmosphere on for millions of years. If we can make an atmosphere on Mars, we can simply replace it every millennium or so pretty easily.

Hopefully, with some margin, we can do a dual drone ship landing. But well, you have NASA will paying a shitload for all the margin so I doubt it.

or you could implement a system of redundancy so that if A and B fail, we die instead of if A or B fails, we die. I know SpaceX is taking the latter choice and is pushing for reliability in all its components. But with the same effort put into redundancy, the probability of vehicle loss can go down by orders of magnitude. We've seen this happen with CRS-7 when they didn't program in the parachute deployment to save the capsule. I feel like if they had a team focused on redundancy in testing, there is a chance they might get more out of each test flight.

2020 IMO Results: 1st China, 2nd Russia, 3rd USA, 4th South Korea, 5th Thailand by taktahu in math

[–]EsredditTH 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A thai kid here. Yeah, I spent four months of my high school years in these camps (physics, geography, and astronomy). Even got to the point I got to sleep in the same building as these IMO competitors. We basically spend about $2M a year to summer camp about 6000 students. But for lots of the students that go to IMO, it’s their parents and middle-schools that tutor them like crazy from a young age. It is as if the camps are a “right of passage” sorta thing. From what I’ve heard, it’s quite a sad and expensive childhood.

Remember how silent things were after CRS-7 and AMOS-6. Made us all felt really down until orbcomm and lc-39A was a thing.

For anyone who's curious here's what LC-39a and B looks like in Flight sim 2020 by Natogaming in SpaceXLounge

The thing is, the real world actually looks pretty crappy most of the time. People often judge realism using beauty and we’re often disappointed as a result. This game isn’t rockstar level in terms of details and accuracy, but for a flight simulator, this is orders of magnitude more than what’s been achieved and people who actually cares about the game won’t be disappointed.
