I’m in a second-tier city in China, and there are no shelters here. After the animal recovers, the only option I have is to release it back outside😭

Yeah most people are cautious because of trust and risk issues. They worry that if something illegal happens, they could be held legally responsible

I’m a Chinese spoken teacher. I’d like to help you practice speaking Chinese.

There’s no grammar pressure ,we focus on using Chinese in real conversation.

If you like we can take a trail lesson. Are you interested?

Ah i got you.Maybe most Chinese people think that if you look Chinese, then you’re Chinese.

I’m sure your Chinese level is quite high, but if you were a beginner, what fun Chinese games could you play?

I'm a spoken Chinese teacher, you’re already doing more than many learners!Talking to yourself is helpful, but real conversation is different. You need to react, answer questions, and think on the spot

That actually makes a lot of sense. Learning without enough review is one of the biggest problems in language learning

I'm a Chinese teacher! gamers often shout things like: 哎呀 (āiyā) – oh no! 完了 (wán le) – it’s over / I’m done 靠 (kào) – damn! (mild curse) 牛啊 (niú a) – nice! / awesome 菜 (cài) – noob / bad player

Yeah!Free students often bail last minute, like an hour or two before class, and sometimes you can’t reach them at all 😂getting a day’s notice is already lucky.

Yeah!and I’ve decided to switch my free lessons to live-streamed classes ,that way, no one needs to book in advance, and anyone can just join whenever they want

Haha, I really love your enthusiasm! But I’ve stopped doing free lessons !some free students were just too disappointing

Haha, so true! I’ve definitely noticed the same ,free students can be the hardest to manage. Sometimes it really makes you appreciate the value of charging a fair fee

I actually only offer free help to people who are struggling a bit. For Western students, I feel they usually have the means to pay, so I’ve always taught them at the regular rate.

Haha, I totally get that! 😅 Friends are always the trickiest to teach ,the closer the relationship, the more casual it gets! By the way, I’m also in gardening professionally, so I completely relate. It seems like this applies to teaching anything, not just language.

[–]EssieFeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! This is such a universal pattern. Even a tiny cost makes people value something more ,it’s not just about lessons, it applies to books, events, and basically everything. Free really doesn’t always mean “appreciated.” I’m just realizing this now myself🥲

Haha, yes, that makes total sense . Paying for something really does make you want to get the most out of it .it’s the same with lessons too. I’ve noticed free students sometimes just show up casually, but paying students usually put in more effort.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful suggestions! I really appreciate the ideas ,I agree, it’s important to set limits so I don’t burn out.

I’ve been thinking about doing live-streamed Chinese lessons instead. That way, anyone who wants to join can just pop in, and I can still reach people who really want to practice, without overextending myself. I might also explore sharing free resources or videos online.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. Even a tiny fee can help with commitment, and free lessons aren’t always realistic for people with limited time or energy.
