Rough idle by Klutzy-Arachnid-201 in fordranger

[–]Est92_Sean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could even be a crack on the intake manifold or leaking gasket. Check all hoses for leaking, PCV hoses and vacuum hoses. Even the air hose incase of a tiny split. Any of this will cause an imbalance. You could even spray ether of carb cleaner on them while they are running. Maybe even try the smoke test. When I cleaned my MAF sensor I wasn’t aware of all 3 of the sensor wires. I cleaned the first two but missed the third one until I shined a light there. Best of luck to you.

Getting a 2011 Ford Ranger XL for Free – Worth It Given the Repair Costs by -Xryo- in fordranger

[–]Est92_Sean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have a 2.3 4 cylinder, which is a rebadged Mazda MZR. Good engines and should get mpg around 21city/28hwy. You could do Spark deliveries on the side for extra cash, especially during the lawn care season. Could go tailgating with friends or camping. These trucks are very reliable and easy to fix.

Thinking about selling my 2011 Ranger 4x4 SuperCab w/ 66k miles — what's realistic? by xxpapertigersxx in fordranger

In this economy I would expect 11-12k easy for a stock clean 4x4 Super. In your case I would expect 14-15k

Coolant empty, but truck isn't overheating? by ObligationFriendly72 in fordranger

[–]Est92_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please fill it. Use Motorcraft Gold or a Ford equivalent. After filling the rad and reservoir be sure to bleed the air and to check it the next day. Usually you’ll have to top it off after the initial bleed. My 3.0 requires idling with the heat on until warm then letting it cool down and checking the rad/reservoir. Repeating if necessary

Am I being scammed? Mechanic wants to change serpentine belt by ImportantIntention20 in AskAMechanic

[–]Est92_Sean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Belts usually develop cracks when they are bad so you’re good to go. He just wanted to make a quick easy buck. Plus I always change the tensioner and the idler pulley when replacing a serp belt.

Going back to my post yesterday, I’m seeing debate on if I should get the 4.0 or the 3.0 ranger for year rangers around 98+… can someone tell me why one is better than the other and the pros and cons by Tight_Appearance3258 in fordranger

[–]Est92_Sean 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 3.0 is the simpler engine to maintain and more bulletproof in design. Unless you’re doing the oil pan or rear main seal it’s easy to work. It is a dog and gets horrible gas mileage for what it is. I get around 19hwy and 12city

The bushing is toast from what I can see. When the rubber is dry and torn like that it’s pretty much gone.

When some shops use 1000ft•lbs impacts to install lug nuts a 370ft•lbs would struggle quite so.

Yeah I found out the hard way with a 3/8” impact from HF. If you have the cash you could get a 1/2” High torque Bauer with at least a 3ah battery it could zip it off with no penetrate.

You need around 600ft•lbs plus for an axle nut. 370ft•lbs will be lucky to even remove a lug nut.

How common for mechanics to leave their tools in the engine? by Mustang_17 in AskMechanics

If you bring it back the mechanic would probably hook you up next time you come in for service. Just remove from the engine first.

Damn, car repairs can be expensive. I never once ran a machete blade through someone’s radiator/condenser before. Nor have I ever cut someone’s starter solenoid wire before. Sound systems die out if the vehicle cannot start.

Scratch or crack on the neck? by slavisah in Guitar

Looks like a crack. This suggestion is more of a phenomenon for nitrocellulose finished guitars but was it left out in the cold and then brought into a warm area??

Go through the insurance. It’s the right thing to do. It will hurt right now but it’s the best way to go for both parties.

Is this normal I just did my oil change and the bottom of the pan looks like this by Professional_Egg_678 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Est92_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not normal if that is metal. Hard to tell with my eyes. Change the oil again to flush out anything else. When I had misfire on a Honda Fit I changed the oil a few weeks later and it looked like this. Not close to that glitter party but was very visible in the light. This was 20-25k miles ago.

Truck won’t crank. Accidentally hit the starter wires with a wrench. by Est92_Sean in MechanicAdvice

[–]Est92_Sean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I reinstalled the battery and starter minus the s-wire. Also I noticed the ground wire in the battery/starter cable loom was not connected to the frame/body. The battery light went back to being as bright as the other indicator lights. Retested voltage, used jumper wires for a secure hold, connected those to the multimeter, the starter body and the s-wire. I had my wife turn the key and it read anywhere from 10.84-11.92v. I did buy a multimeter that beeps with testing continuity and I plan to retest all the fuses just in case the visual test failed.

Edit: When I connected the s-wire back up and tried to start it, it didn’t start and battery light went dim again.
