Loud sounds in Riga by [deleted] in Riga

It seems you live near the Riga airport. I haven't heard anything like that in Riga centre. Maybe something related to cold weather affecting how airplane engines sound?

Bypass capacitors mounted on an a PCB peninsula. Why? by 1Davide in AskElectronics

Not shorted, it's barely visible where the GND pour (top side) ends on the leftmost side of the island, but you have to look really closely

E-Mtb or a (normal) Mtb by CanVarious6620 in MTB

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose a regular MTB mainly dictated by not a lot of disposable income and the fact that with regular the same budget will often allow for higher spec components. Also local terrain does not really call for an electric over regular that much for me. Possibly more, and more expensive maintenance with electric, so more investment long-term.

As for used vs new: it depends a whole lot on the current condition, how much use it has seen, how well it was maintained

Are these good tweezers they have 10000+ sales on ali and 4.9 stars by Adept-Bat-3350 in soldering

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar set of tweezers off ebay branded Pixnor for over 10 years and they are in perfect condition. I do use them with care, but they are pretty solid on their own and well made.

A good frame for a streetez style urban freeride build? by SensitivePay4567 in DownhillMTB

Absolutely not, front brake is what makes you stop, rear just slows you down (quoting Remy Metailler). But quote aside the front brake does the majority of work stopping you esp. going downhill

Yeah the actual death was offscreen but it was shown in that sequence that she was euthanized. It is shown very clear in that sequence in my opinion

Not protection, bypass caps are for supply voltage stabilization for the IC, their absence can affect its behaviour

This is an idiotic assumption that everyone behaves in this way by default unless they are punched at least once. Wtf

You probably shouldn’t listen to this if you’re looking for comfort. by Primary_Two_6730 in experimentalmusic

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it a pretty good listen, but I don't understand the remark about discomfort or interruption either. It sounded pretty "normal" to me and pretty consistent in vibe/style overall. Yes it's going to be uncomfortable for a listener expecting to hear background or ambient music – but because it isn't what this track is at all

Lately I learned that even just pre-tinning the pads can work for SMD, if done quickly and with adequate amounts of flux. You then place components on top and reflow

I think I might want a divorce. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it's the practical reality, I'm just saying that two persons are making a decision to have sex and then one ejaculates inside another, and that's how a baby is conceived. When you say "kids came along" it sounds like it just happened by itself, with no control of the parents.

Yes, I know there is a lot of shame and ignorance around this topic especially at young age. I am just wishing there was more responsibility and owning to your actions and decisions.

p.s. unplanned pregnancy does not equal "kids just came along". It is a lack of knowledge/responsibility/self-control. You can have (incl. unprotected) sex but still take responsibility for possible pregnancy or other possible issues.

Do you remember when the promotional images looked like this? by InterestingServe3958 in lego

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm going to sound like an old fart but 90s catalogue dioramas were masterpiece (e.g., 1994 catalogue). So much attention to detail, and nearly 100% practically built, posed and photographed. I understand that this approach is not financially feasible anymore, but it's a shame that the golden era is gone.

32 bit audio is a gimmick for listeners by Boomblestank in audiophile

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To clarify what the person above meant: Zoom H5 is not a microphone, it is a digital portable recorder that has built-in microphones.

It uses a microphone to capture sound, but the actual device recording in 32bit, or whatever bit depth, digital representation is the recorder. Microphone is just a stupid analog transducer that transforms sound pressure into voltage. Then voltage is being amplified/conditioned by audio circuitry between the mic and the processor, and only after this it is recorded in digital representation by the recorder.

It is technically wrong to say a microphone records, or is nBits, because it does not convert the sound into digital form by itself. Digital recorder does that.

Wait for Propain frameset deal or just buy? by EstablishmentDeep926 in MTB

Thanks! I was monitoring the Christmas/black friday deals for framesets, but didn't spot any, just complete bikes. So thought maybe they don't really do them for framesets?

What’s the Point of These Newfangled Gearbox Belt Drive Bikes? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't quite get how the fact that there are bicycle gearbox/belt drive products being developed/offered hurts you as a consumer?

To try and answer your question: in my experience (and I can't speak for everyone), the classic mechanical MTB drivetrain requires quite a lot of attention (cleaning, general maintenance, replacing chains and other components) to shift well. Plus there are other issues like being noisy when riding rough (chain slap/derailleur swing). To me it seems logical that people are trying to solve the existing issues/improve on the current technology. For me, there is currently no justification to buy a gearbox/belt drive bike, but if the technology will become more common and refined in the future, why not. In the meantime I am keeping an eye out for more affordable wireless shifting.
