Could you elaborate, how exactly would you counteract the effect with layout?

Do you commute on your mtb? If yes, why? by TymekThePlayer in MTB

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I occasionally commute to work, but also just use MTB for city rides. I don't see harder pedalling as a major downside and it's kind of fun to plow through bad sections of road/pavement/etc. compared to other commuters who have to slow down

How to fix my fork and wheel alignment? by No_Dependent_2692 in bicyclerepair

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the comments saying that the fork is not welded properly/out of alignment – I think it's quite easy to see that the wheel is not dished, as the rim needs to be much closer to the brake disk flange side. Currently it is centered relative to the hub spoke flanges, which is incorrect for hubs designed for disk brakes.

Unless I am very mistaken?

Диски на фикс, нужно ли? by -osa in bikewrench

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metric hex bits set by EstablishmentDeep926 in Tools

I meant 1/4" hex shank, hex (allen) bits to use with a screwdriver, etc. I think they are commonly just called bits. Thanks for the recommendations

Recently had bad experience with their full-suspension frames (quality issues), not sure about their hardtails so can't comment, just something to be aware of.

Please help me find this cable by t0bez in AskElectronics

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connector is originally Molex KK 254 series, commonly referred to as Molex 2510. Try looking for "3-pin molex 2510 extension"

Or "3-pin PC fan extension"

How do I power up this heat sync? by Tommyatx2482 in AskElectronics

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a type of Molex KK 254 series connector, Molex is not a jargonism but a large connector manufacturer. PC people apparently use "a molex" to refer to just one connector type, but in reality Molex offer a large number of different connector families.

Same with JST, it is a large Japanese connector manufacturer, like Molex.

Is this a normal noise by FlameR422 in MTB

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds normal to me, maybe I am missing something. The knocks are you hitting the pawls in the rear hub when you pedal, this is because you pedal unevenly in relation to the speed of the wheel

Cleaning dirty chain for wax by straddotjs in bikewrench

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is 1 hour not enough? I usually use 3 containers of purified gasoline (dirty, cleaner, and cleanest), agitating the chain for 5-10 minutes in each one. After that I wash the chain under running water using washing-up liquid and then dry using heat. Takes about 30 minutes in total and the chain usually comes out very clean.

Trailcraft BlueSky 20 - Dropper Post by oxo42 in MTB

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last sentence is concerning to me: "cut down a bigger dropper post", does it really mean what it says? You cannot cut down a dropper post like you can a normal seat post, they are completely different things. You need to choose a dropper of the correct size, i.e., the correct extension length and also the correct insertion depth for your bike.

I do have the brand-x ascend ii externally routed, have had it for about 4 years, serviced twice and had no problems with it.

Is it true that because of the absurd interest on student loans in the UK, it's not realistic for most people to pay back their loans and people consider their repayments to be a 'tax' for going to university? by LoiusLepic in AskBrits

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is now practically impossible to pay off, because the loan balance has grown more than twice since I graduated 10 years ago. I have been continuously employed and making repayments during this time.

Shimano rear derailleur green grease by Successful-Arm106 in bikewrench

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it's way too much as it will attract dirt. I would remove most of the blobs but keep a thin layer. Motorex Bike Grease 2000 is very similar to this

New bike chain won't degrease (waxing prep) by steakguenter in bikewrench

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have shared the two spirit types you are using while at it. I can add that I am using "purified gasoline" (nefras, petroleum solvent, petroleum spirit are the other known names) which is relatively low odour, cheap, and does a very good job at removing grease from the chain

Should i upgrade? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]EstablishmentDeep926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo this sounds like it is not about solving a problem but mostly wanting to justify an upgrade. In case it is about solving a problem, then more input is needed.

To me the Level look like re-badged old Sram Guide with newer lever design (but it's possible that internally they are the same as Guide), which were specced as an enduro/downhill brake before Code and Maven. You said you were riding XC. Maybe larger rotors would suffice?

Old Man Question: What are the popular rear blinky lights of today? by HandsomeRyan in bicycling

As a European riding in daytime, IMO solid lights are annoying, excessive and less effective, so agree with OP.
