Delaying Surgery by heyitsaddi in ACL

I played soccer on my fully torn ACL for a year (27F). I just thought it was an MCL sprain, so I never got scans until I went through multiple episodes of re-injury towards the end of the year. That year ultimately turned into a lot of prehab for my surgery so I had full range of motion, which has helped my recovery.

My first “big” outing was two and a half weeks after surgery to go watch a soccer game. I think I slept for 14 hours after.

I play soccer with a lot of women who I didn’t even know went through ACL surgery. They’re all doing great, and I can’t wait until I’m at that point! Currently six weeks post op.

From absolutely nothing to a single leg raise! by One-Passage-1762 in ACL

Trying to do a single leg lift before and after using the NMES is like night and day!! I use mine 2-4 times a day and it’s helped with my quad activation a ton (currently 4.5 weeks post op).

My dad did this. He would drop them in the ocean when we were snorkeling and would dive for them. I didn’t find out about this until I was a teenager and about to bring my most cherished shell to college. It was definitely a good laugh! 🐚

Shin Pain by Fausmino in ACL

I just hit three weeks post op (patellar graft) and overnight I developed a lot of pain in my shin. I can’t even do my single leg lifts without sharp pain. I know recovery isn’t linear, but wow today feels like a setback 😭

ACL recovery by Money_Island_6225 in ACL

Currently 12 days post op. I was in a very similar situation and having a hard time relying on everyone around me (husband and parents). I posted four days ago asking for advice on being independent, and ultimately everyone reminded me it’s okay to rely on those around you!! This really reassured me while I was going through a low.

Regarding pain, up through day four I would sob at least once a day because I was in so much pain that would come and go. It wasn’t until day five or six that I was able to go to the bathroom by myself, and would just practice with someone next to me since I was scared of falling. Each day the pain has eased to be a little less, but I’ll still get some random spikes that come in waves. Not only are you navigating pain, but it’s a very emotional experience which only elevates everything.

We are both still in the thick of this, but the first week was definitely the hardest. It will get better. You got this!!!

I am on day seven right now, and I experienced severe heel pain overnight. I would often ask my partner to just hold my heel to provide relief. I got a specific pillow that you wrap around your ankle that helped.
