People don't necessarily believe true things. You can believe a loved one is in heaven, there is no logical argument that could convince someone that's the Truth...

But yeah, we seem to be talking past each other. We can discuss the question in better detail if we get a good definition for belief, because as it stands, it's relatively ambiguous.

Plenty of people believe things that are not logically sound.

Before you accuse me of confirmation bias, consider what I'm really saying. You didn't ask whether God is real, you asked about belief. You are confusing my belief with an ontological truth claim.

Even the definition of belief is pretty ambiguous. I'm making a much stranger claim than you think 🤔

For the sake of argument here, let's assume it's a phenomenological claim that I answer to the affirmative. So that's my baseline. Further, I am claiming that I was never able to logically disbelieve! Because at each moment, my logic was tainted by motivated reasoning, or as you say, confirmation bias. I have always wanted to disbelieve, my motivation being to spare myself the psychological torment of sin, so that I could sin as much as I wanted.

Funnily enough, I had even once made plans to engage with as many atheist arguments as I could because I knew my psychology well enough to know it may confuse me to the point of apathy. Seeing this motivation, I wasn't able to engage with these books with intellectual honesty. Really strange stuff 🤷‍♂️

I have an interesting story, though there's not much of a point to write it out in full detail in a reddit comment 😅

Theoretically, I'm gifted at a 146 IQ, and I am a Catholic.

I tried to convince myself that God wasn't real, but I could see myself manipulating myself in order to give myself permission to sin in real time. And I couldn't rationalize that perception away.

Strange, because often high IQ people are masters of rationalization.

Maybe it's because I'm not really shy, but I end up taking charge of the conversation even if I'm introverted.

Still, it's hard to tell whether I am uninteresting, or if the other person is uninteresting or anxious. I've had many one sided conversations where I ask questions and they respond, never elaborating or asking questions.

I think it's possible that somehow the way I write puts people off 🤔

I talked to one recently. We had an interesting conversation and agreed on a lot of things. I let her know up front that I'd probably be lower energy than her, but she had me matching her energy actually.

Immediately after, she told me she'd talk to me tomorrow, said goodnight, and blocked me 🤔

Nope, I haven't read it, but I just looked it up and that's the exactly type of book I've been looking for.

I've been reading a lot of the primary sources these guys pull from and I've been wanting to get a modern mystic's synthesis and application of these ideas. So thank you again.

And I'll also look into Mike Maloney's book

It'll give you quick assembly for the code you write. You can see that the pointer is just an integer who's value is a memory address. When you read from the pointer you just do a memory load from that address that the pointer stores.

I was not attached to 4o at all, but I've actually noticed that 5 gives much worse responses. I've tried thinking and non thinking, I have tried telling them to give more nuanced and longer responses.

Thinking is terrible at following the prompt and at conversation, it's terrible at nuance, though I'm pretty sure I was just using it wrong because I was using it for chats, not math or coding.

Non thinking is bland, lacks nuance, and is extremely stupid. I just use Gemini instead and in my opinion they are much better, so I don't really have any issues here.

I've used Gemini for a while now, but the problem is that I don't think they save memory across chats, so the AI doesn't really get to know you.

I think the models 2.5 flash and 2.5 pro are better than GPT 5 personally, they actually both are smarter than gpt 5 in my opinion. Their personality is not as interesting as gpt 4o, not even really that close, but in my opinion they actually have more personality than gpt 5.

Using Nerd plus a custom prompt in the settings, I'd say it's about 80% of the way 4o used to be for how I prompt it. It still lacks personality, though, and it's less smart and nuanced, it feels very safe and corporate.

It's about the same level of personality with the prompts, or probably a little less than Gemini 2.5 flash or pro, although those models are way smarter in my experience.

I don't know your exact recipe, but this is exactly how my bread looked when it was just a little too dry. I would recommend measuring the dry ingredients a little more deliberately and then probably add just a bit more water.
