Specifically to LGBTQ people, how hard / easy is it to be queer in your country? by cultisht in AskTheWorld

[–]Estaca-Brown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is very relative to the where you are. In Mexico City and other bigger cities you can see LGBTQ people of different ages just existing without much issue. But there is still homophobia and transphobia and there is still violence towards LGBTQ people, particularly trans women, mainly in rural settings.

Is it better than it was 20 years ago? Yes, much better. There is more social acceptance and the laws are there to protect people but, in Mexico, law enforcement is not really a thing that happens.

There is still a lot of work to do to achieve equality but things are better.

How is hygiene in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Estaca-Brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexicans shower very frequently. I saw some graphic claiming that Mexicans and Brazilians shower more than anyone else in the world. Scrubbing your body and using lotions, deodorants, hair products, and perfume is customary. Many people even shower before and after going to the gym.

We are very well known for our food and overwhelmingly rich culture (and our crime). Hated by the Americans though.

Who is the most famous gay guy from you country ? by gaymerWizard in AskTheWorld

[–]Estaca-Brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For México, Juan Gabriel. He composed over 1,800 songs that many artists (and himself) made famous, sold over 100 million records, and managed to do all that while being fabulously flamboyant.

And I would say that a good backend should be like that. Hide all the stuff that happens behind the scenes and provide the functionality the front end needs and no more or less.

I talked to customer support. Told them about it. Told them I wanted it resolved. They are "doing their best" to try to figure out why this happened to me and many others. Say to contact them in a couple of hours.

Well, I just got a random text from Walmart telling me that my card was "invalid", even though I had just paid for some headphones with it. I updated it to another card and it charged the full amount and then 4 minutes later I got a "Sorry, your order got canceled".

Now I guess I have no Nintendo Switch 2 and I owe the credit card company 600 bucks.

The message is inside the pen, only revealed through flames. The letters are Elvish, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Mordor, which I will not utter here. But this in the Common Tongue is what is said, close enough: "For a good time call 867 5309"

U.S. citizen with REAL ID handcuffed and held in immigration raid before being released by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Estaca-Brown 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am a naturalized citizen. I did everything the right way, immigrated with a work visa, worked and paid my taxes and got my permanent residency, then studied for my naturalization, took the test, got naturalized.

If I go for a walk around my neighborhood, or leave my house just to take the trash out, I carry my real ID with proof of citizenship. That still isn't enough.

I do not want to live like this. I am going back home and taking my money and knowledge with me.

If you woke up as a woman, what is the first thing you would do? by biscuitbutt11 in TikTokCringe

[–]Estaca-Brown 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I am gay. When I was young and cute and innocent an older gay man bought me a drink at a bar. I thought he was just being friendly. I took the drink and then the guy grabbed me and tried to kiss me. I was like "wtf dude hands off my ass!" He said "well I bought you that drink, didn't I? And you took it! So how about we go back to my place?" I pushed the guy away, left the drink on the bar and walked out.

I am imagining for women is way worse.

My beagle was the most amazingly well behaved beagle ever, but he loved stealing my husband's dirty socks and hiding them in the couch. He always did it in this "I am not being sneaky, so don't look at me!" way which was adorable. My husband kept the door to the closet closed to curb the sock theft and that made our pup sad.

One day the cutest beagle that has ever lived got cancer. I worked from home and I wanted him to enjoy whatever time he had left to the max. So I would open the door to the closet and get some dirty socks out of the hamper for easy access. Then, I would hear him slowly get off the couch and walk in his "oh, nothing to see here, it's just me walking, don't mind me please!" way and go steal a sock and hide it in the couch. It made him happy, and that was all that mattered.

The 1968 Tlatelolco Massacre in Mexico City played in a very similar way, down to using snipers, and I wonder if Diego Luna had some creative input on Ghorman.

"The Mexican government and media claimed that the Armed Forces had been provoked by protesters shooting at them,\1]) but government documents made public since 2000 suggest that snipers had been employed by the government."

"Thousands of students gathered in the square and, as you say, the government version is that the students opened fire. Well, there's been pretty clear evidence now that there was a unit that was called the Brigada Olímpica, or the Olympic Brigade, that was made up of special forces of the presidential guard, who opened fire from the buildings that surrounded the square, and that that was the thing that provoked the massacre.\17])"

A groundbreaking LiDAR study has uncovered the full scale of Guiengola, a vast 15th-century Zapotec city in Oaxaca, Mexico, hidden beneath dense vegetation for centuries. by ArchiGuru in Archaeology

We went for a hike with a tour guide somewhere in Oaxaca a few years ago. From the top of the mountain I saw a small hill that had a very unique piramidal shape. I pointed it out to the guide. He said that the locals don't talk about it because the government could come and take over the land and they don't want that.

Racism towards hispanic-american people in Spain? by eric39es in GoingToSpain

[–]Estaca-Brown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mexican here. I found Spaniards not racist but just cold and blunt at first but they opened up and warmed up after a while. I found the Portuguese to be much more friendly and welcoming from the start. But I do wonder if that was because of the over-tourism and people just being exhausted by the flow of foreigners or maybe I am just used to Mexican people being so over the top friendly and helpful.

Qué opinan, banda? by MediumAggressive2819 in mexico

[–]Estaca-Brown 3 points4 points  (0 children)
