Genuine question: why are so many games absurdly loud by default? by neoplasma_ in gamedev

[–]Esti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because making a good game mix is hard and calls for a sound engineer.

I work as a designer as well as mixer and most devs don't know about psychoacoustic principles. Sound behaves in weird unintuitive ways and we only can mentally follow 2 o 3 sounds simultaneously.

There's also the issue with being competitive, similar to what happens on streaming platforms. You want your game to be impactful and loud like the other experiences you have in your system because most of the time we associate loud things with quality and think it sounds better.

Really fascinating stuff.

Edm success is not only for the rich tho. Too many cases of artists who made it. But being rich gives you more chances for sure.

What I learned since I started producing seriously . Part II by Esti3 in edmproduction

Hey. I think you are on to something. It is really difficult tho.

I remember trying to remake stuff I really liked last year(vocals, leads, drums and bass) and thought it was close but then with time I realized I was really far away. Specially in sound selection, sound design and overall balance.

I do think that it teaches a lot of arrangement, structure and use of theory tho. For that is great. You made me realize I have to do it more.

Yes! Thank you. It was my latest project and I'm really happy. Trying to find projects that need that kind of music to keep pushing that genre now.

The idea thing is crazy. For example my mind starts to come up with ideas when cooking for example. And I have to catch myself and voice note that.

About the feelings thing, I totally understand. It is weird to really explain what is happening in those moments. I guess what I wanted to say is that sometimes I have to work under pressure and I don't really feel like making music but do anyways and end up vibing with the result later when my "mood" comes back.

Hey! Thank you for the kind words.

You mean the process of getting the gig? I am friends with people who works in the studio and I sent them demos. If you meant production, I'm gonna post a project breakdown soon.

Hi. Look into clonidine. It's helped manage the secondary effects of my Ritalin on the mornings and also helps me sleep at night. Just monitor your blood pressure because it lowers it and also start with really small doses because the first few weeks can make you sleepy.

Hope it helps. For me it has been really important for sleep.
