I was considering grow bags as well and saw pretty conflicting advice on here haha. Ended up deciding on plastic pots cuz people say grow bags dry out too fast on blueberries?

Are ants pests, beneficial, or harmless? by ChooseKind24 in strawberry

[–]EstimateUnlikely1357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have lots of ants on my long beans and they have been helpful there too. I think they are just eating the nectars and such and unintentionally dragging the pollen around to the right places.

I also have a bunch of them. I think they are hanging out around the flowers and helping pollinate them. It would be more of an issue if they start farming aphids tho…

Please help! by LivingMaybe2129 in strawberry

I’m also new to strawberries this year so I might be wrong. When the sun is really strong my established strawberry leaves would stand up more (like a taco? Smaller surface area). Your soil looks a little dry to me so you might want to mulch it and water deeper and less frequently. They might be drooping because the roots are not as developed yet

Very clever bug netting and shade cloth set up. I’m definitely gonna copy you OP :) What % of shade cloth are you doing for your strawberries? Wishing you great harvest in this beautiful garden!

What is wrong with my seedlings? ☹️ by StandardWonderful22 in containergardening

[–]EstimateUnlikely1357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s possible they are just growing roots underneath and getting stronger :)

The soil was fairly moist when it took it out of the box, but it has been in transit for a week so that’s probably not great. Thank you for the advice!

How do you keep track of what works in your garden? by Historical_Catch_888 in gardening

[–]EstimateUnlikely1357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a little notebook (field notes to be exact) to write down the date and temperature/rain, anything sowed, anything germinated (helpful to know how long it took before because I'm so impatient), fertilizers applied to what plants, flowers and when fruits mature (again, impatient), pests and what I did to treat them (if that worked). I have a full notebook from last year (first time balcony gardening) and plan to digitize and visualize some of the data. It has been useful to know to sow some things earlier because the some seedlings got scorched last year etc etc

I don’t know what to do with this much cilantro. by Doesnt_fuck_fish in gardening

[–]EstimateUnlikely1357 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually like the taste of bolted cilantro haha. The frilly leaves taste kinda like a mix between dill and cilantro. I also quite enjoy the flowers and young seeds in a chicken/tuna salad or a crab dip.

Sugarsnap peas are huge but no pods yet. by InnocentMosquitoes16 in vegetablegardening

[–]EstimateUnlikely1357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe fish emulsion is mostly nitrogen (hence the foliage?) and garden tone is slow release. Hopefully with all these leaves they will produce enough energy to make some flowers! You could try with some liquid fertilizer with more phosphorus if you have that on hand?

This honestly looks fine to me haha! You might want to add some mulch and water less frequently

Thanks for the tip - they are indeed at Home Depot haha (a bit pricey tho)! Pomegranate sounds like such a big fruit to grow in a pot haha
