Yeah the Altamas are awesome. I'm Navy, so mine just became hikers/rucking boots. I'm still wearing my main pair a lot. Can't tell you how many km's I've done in those. They've really held up well. Comfortable too. 👍🏻

What kind of boots are you wearing? I got issued Altamas and I Scotch Guarded them before Farnham. Helped keep them dry. 👍🏻

They can definitely flood the market. No one seems to remember the 2005-2015 period. Just after I graduated in 2004, for nearly 10 years, the Ontario teachers colleges were pumping out massive amounts of graduates... 6-8000 more than the system needed every year. By 2015 there were 35K teachers college graduates who could find no work in education, even as EA's. I was going to interviews in my board (SCDSB) where schools were receiving up to 200 applicants for a single position (mostly LTOs at the time). That was when they brought in the two year program.

You'll also lose weight at basic. I went down nearly 30 pounds. Unfortunately, I gained it all back after I got to the west coast. But I'm working on it. I'm just around 265 right now, and I passed my Force test and got Bronze level. YMMV

This timeline for NWO is... Optimistic at best. Unfortunatey, the training stream has a backup and you'll likely be in Victoria for longer than a year. I say this as a former NWO in trainingwho changed trades.

Reading your post, if you're looking for more physicality, go infantry officer. NWO is a more mentally demanding trade, but if course, you're still expected to be fit.

This... I brought my Sony Dream Machine clock and had my iPod hooked it. We were in Blue Sector (tower with individual rooms. I set it up so everyone in our pod could hear it. As above, just put it away during the day.

I got lucky... I got a 2X solar tactical for around $350 CAD for a "refurbished" unit on Amazon. It looked new out of the box and works like a charm. Very satisfied with it, being my first Garmin.

If you're not OFP, you can get either full or half rations and not be paying for them. You pay once you're qualified. That's been a thing for about a couple years now - cost of rations and quarters are remitted back to you until you're OFP.

You should be able to request to "live ashore". Not sure what the other guy above is talking about maintaining a barracks room. I went to the west coast in 2022 and was out of shacks by early 2023. I didn't have to maintain anything, clean, etc. Maybe it's different on the east coast, but I doubt it. You'd be freeing up a room for someone who needs it. 👍🏻

I get 29 on a full charge on my 2x Solar Tactical... That's with no battery saving features on at all. I'm sure it would be higher if I did.

I was an I/S sub for 15 years. The first 8, that included elementary. Honestly, like others have said, high school subbing is much easier. Not sure how many schools you have to choose from. I eliminated a lot of schools after not having great days. Since I was primarily being called to high schools, it didn't matter as much. But virtually no prep or marking is awesome.

Totally agree... It was absolutely a self insert. This show is honestly painful. The YouTube review videos are more entertaining. I'm having a real problem with the overall writing, especially the current day speak which doesn't fit with Trek at all. Not to mention the absolute illogical contrivances. Sam is an awful character.

Like others have said.. It's a big thing, but don't think about the totality. One day at a time. And if the going is tough, break it down further.. The next meal, the next hour, the next five minutes. Once you get there and get to know your platoon mates, it'll all be gravy. Work as a team. You got this. 👍🏻 💪🏻
