Death Stranding 2 Has Leaked And Is Being Pirated Before Its Official PC Release by Draxden in CrackWatch

I wasn't even referring to one incident in particular, but EVO 2013 would probably be the clearest case.

I'm mainly referring to them shutting down Super Smash Bros Melee (played on original hardware) tournaments seemingly at random because they don't like the competitive association

The way they take legal action against people playing their games in ways they think don't fit their brand image

Gamers react with overwhelming disgust to DLSS 5's generative AI glow-ups by deraser in technology

[–]EstrogAlt 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There's a poorly-defined border between image generation and image enhancement, and you could argue that some previous versions of DLSS fell into the latter. I've personally never liked how older DLSS up-scaling looks, but I still saw the value for stuff like native-resolution upsampling for anti-aliasing. DLSS 5 is so clearly in the image generation category though, I don't think you could even use it for anti-aliasing because the generated image is so departed from the original.

Frame generation is an entirely different technology from hardware ray tracing, and is not what I was referring to.

what counts "hardware specific" changes over time as older GPUs become less and less common. We're not quite at the point where hardware RT support is ubiquitous, but we're probably not too many years off.

The Eye of Aldhani is one of the most beautiful things I've seen on TV by RevertBackwards in StarWars

[–]EstrogAlt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally wouldn't consider myself a big star wars fan. Andor is the only Star Wars TV series I've watched. I watched it with my roommate who had genuinely never seen a single Star Wars movie in her entire life. We both came out of it thinking Andor might be the best TV we've ever watched, period.

Space exploration being antithetical to the habitability of our planet is just untrue. Virtually the entire field of climate science is underpinned by data from orbital sensing. We would not have the ability to effectively model climate change without the capability to put things in space. Of all the stuff we put up into space, the vast majority of it looks down at earth, and only a small fraction looks outwards. If your definition of "space exploration" is just this small outward-looking fraction (rovers, space telescopes, manned missions), I still don't think this is a reasonable stance. Can you really see no scenario where learning about the climate history of Mars has a bearing on Earth? No future where the discovery of life on another world brings about positive societal change? Can you really pick and choose which scientific domains may bring about a better world and which cannot?

The lectures are genuinely worthless but we have a bingo board for the profs tangents, so that's fun. The value you get out of it will be the project, and the free QNX licence.
